Then why is John Paul Jones called the father of the U.S. Navy. Seems that he would have been the founder of the Contintal Navy. But we can agree to disagree.
Never heard him called that. He was a major force in the Continental Navy which was the forerunner of the US Navy which was formed by the Naval Act of 1794 to fight the Barbary pirates.
Suffice it to say without John Paul Jones and others like him there would not be an America today.
I thought the ‘Father of the Navy’ was Commodore Barry?
