Florida's Republican attorney general on Wednesday proposed toughening the state's immigration laws, with powers to punish illegal immigration that could go beyond a controversial Arizona law.

Bill McCollum, who is running for governor, introduced the legislation amid an increasingly charged public debate over how far states should go to control illegal immigration, traditionally a federal responsibility.

"This legislation will provide new enforcement tools for protecting our citizens and will help our state fight the ongoing problems created by illegal immigration," McCollum said in introducing the bill.

The law instructs judges to take into account violation of immigration regulations in setting bail, or to elevate the degree of criminal charges.

Even if Florida’s AG is only doing it for political purpose then we know that tough immigration laws are a winning issue for most Americas.

The RINO-in-chief in the governor’s seat wouldn’t sign it anyway.

Now it will be Michelle Antoinette’s time to spend time with the other daughter and 30 of their good friends. Monaco, Cannes, Dubai, Paradise Island?

Doesn’t matter now does it??!! Florida, Virginia and any other state that passes tough immigration laws will never face the scrutiny of Az. Why? They’re not a border state, nor are they part of the whole atzalan movement. Now if Texas, New Mexico or Cali were to try the Arizona law, all hell would break loose from the justice department!

McCollum is just doing it for political purposes.

The AG cannot propose bills anyway...and the Legislature is not in session.

Scott has absolutely destroyed McCollum on his non-support of SB 1070....Scott refers to McCollum as a “liberal” for supporting Illegals and Open Borders, and rightfully so

I will be voting for Scott....any vote for a pro-Amnesty candidate is supporting Amnesty

I wouldn’t be at all surprised. I suspect MO is looking for an excuse to go overseas and play queen again.

Flush out "Chicken Charlie" Crist on this. MAKE HIM SAY WHERE HE STANDS. "Governor; do you support a similar law in Florida like the one passed in Arizona? Would you veto it?"
