"The best thing for our party is to rally around Congressman Deal as our nominee in the fight against Roy Barnes," Handel said in a statement released by her campaign. "Barnes would return Georgia to a past that is best kept in our rearview mirror. We must marshal all of our resources to defeat him."

This is the way candidates are supposed to sound after a defeat in the primaries.

Drat. Handel could have beaten Barnes - I am afraid Deal cannot.

By the time I went to bed last night (11 pm), the results from Handel’s home county (Fulton) hadn’t been received. A reporter said that this wasn’t the first time that results had been slow in coming from her home county in other races she’d been in. That seemed strange to me and this could be validation to my thoughts at the time....Why that county each time it involves her? Good move on her part to concede or coverup?

Don’t know - just glad it’s Deal taking on Barnes....

OK. So, our Mama Grizzly lost one, albeit narrowly in a race that wasn’t even supposed to be close, to the Mitt and Huck odd couple. But this compares to how many wins?

Newt and Huck endorsed Deal. Mitt joined Sarah in backing Handel.
With Karen Handel conceding to Nathan Deal in the race for governor in Georgia, Newt Gingrich's possible presidential campaign should not hang in the balance. There is no way, none whatsoever, that Deal would have beaten Handel if home-state icon Gingrich had not weighed in so heavily for him. He barely squeaked past Ms. Handel.

But Mr. Deal has a pending federal investigation against him. If this investigation finds Deal to have seriously erred, and it costs Georgia Republicans the governorship, it is Gingrich who should get the blame. Gingrich already has insulted conservatives not just by endorsing DeDe Scozzafava over Doug Hoffman in New York last year, but actually criticizing Hoffman supporters in harsh and disparaging terms. Now he carries the ethically-challenged Deal across the finish line. This is his Deal now.

One can only hope that the charges against Deal have no merit. But Democrats reportedly are licking their chops. They thought Deal was a weaker candidate in the general election than Handel. IF they prove right, Gingrich should not be allowed to live it down. When are Washington GOPers going to stop their sickening mutual back-scratching and letting the local Republican voters make decisions on their own?

Gingrich Now Owns This Deal

So when Barnes wins in November, we will have another reason to “blame Newt”... sigh...

I just know that if we want and need the few sane Dems left to defect, like Phil Gramm and others in 1994 did, we don’t need to throw one who already HAS under the Bus for some Planned Parenthood funding feminist.

Why?

I’m not from Georgia.

Is the winner more conservative than the loser?

This is not about who is more conservative.

In 2,860 precincts the difference was 2,487 votes; less than 1 per precinct. This is about who has the ground game.

The same against the Dems. The side that can get its supporters to the polls wins. The side that thinks it is entitled to win and then sits on its hands while whining ... that side loses.

If we want to win, we have to work for it. The side that works the hardest deserves to win.

The winner is a former blue dog Dem who switched to the GOP.

The loser is someone who has voted to fund Planned Parenthood.

She was backed by Palin.

Looks like Palin backed the wrong person - here as in Arizona, which calls into question her judgement.

A Blue Dog Dem who switchs to the GOP should be a treasured asset.

And somebody who votes to fund Planned Parenthood is no conservative.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I don’t always trust the blue dog democrats who change parties. Quite often they change simply to get re-elected in a republican district.

Eric Johnson was my original vote. In the runoff, I thought Handel could defeat Barnes on this wave of women winning (Fiorina, Whitman, Nikki Haley) -and win the vote of those with “woman guilt” - similar to the Obama “black guilt” vote.
