That approach works for good families. Unfortunately our society has been under attack for decades and many parents don’t even have a moral compass.
People have been having this discussion since Elvis swiveled his hips. Talking doesn’t seem to be getting it done.
Yesterday foxnews had 3 victoria’s secret models on during the morning news. Don’t think we would have seen that when we were growing up.
“Talking doesnt seem to be getting it done.”
Ignoring hasn’t helped either. We’ve let the leftists dictate the agenda since the 60’s and thats why we are losing.
You're seriously not comparing Elvis to rappers talking about "Hos"?
Kids whose parents don’t care enough to protect them from music videos will have problems anyway and legislating rules about what teenybopper singers can wear is not going to help them.
driftdiver said we have to talk about it. I pointed out we’ve been talking about it since Elvis. Hasn’t done much good. Rappers and ho’s are irrelevant to that point.
“When” did you grow up?
It makes a difference.
Factor in the exponential leap forward nowadays in the proliferation and extent of general coarseness and sexually explicit mainstreaming..it IS THAT hard.
In the 90s - I was born in 83. So parenting today is more difficult but not as much more difficult as someone who grew up in the 60s. And I have a good example of parents who raised me away from the culture to follow.
‘Would you support government involvement?”
A govt of the people, by the people and for the people. Good people need to get involved and quit being afraid of being heard.
“Kids whose parents dont care enough to protect them from music videos will have problems anyway and legislating rules about what teenybopper singers can wear is not going to help them.”
So you’re saying lets just give up and let the world be the worldly?
“driftdiver said we have to talk about it. I pointed out weve been talking about it since Elvis. Hasnt done much good. Rappers and hos are irrelevant to that point.”
The point is we haven’t really been talking about it. Good people talk about it to good people. The instant good people step out into the world and say “thats not acceptable” the leftists go into attack mode and good people shut up.
Are we willing to fight for our freedom? Because that is really what we are fighting for. Moral decay plays into the hands of the leftists as they work to destroy our country.
“it IS THAT hard.”
Yeah, I broke my wrist turning off the tv when my daughter was a toddler. /sarc
Oh, and that internet parental control program...yeah, I had to call them once because I forgot my password. Way hard.
Making laws is not the way to make the world not be worldly. Converting people to Christian living is the only way to actually change anything.

Sure, you cannot legislate morality. that doesn’t mean you turn a blind eye to the leftist agenda.

There is a world out there that continues to degrade while you stick your head in the sand. Its not all about you or your toddler.

IOW, your answer is "Yes". What level of government... federal?
Yes, it is.
That's one of the challenges we must deal with as part of living in a (mostly) free country.
It would be much easier if the government would just ban everything offensive from the airwaves, cable, and CD's, wouldn't it?
“There is a world out there that continues to degrade while you stick your head in the sand. Its not all about you or your toddler.”
I’m not sticking my head in the sand. I know it’s there. Yes, there is a “world” out there. I’m a Christian, thus mandated to be in it, not of it. As I’ve repeatedly tried to point out, we don’t have to be a victim of it. We, especially as parents, can say “no.” When I read a “boo hoo” article about a parent having no control over the tv remote, well, I can’t help but call that playing the victim of how the tv remote keeps one from being a good parent. The left is very good at abdicating personal responsibility. “My child turned out bad because of that evil tv and internet....” Please...if parents took responsibility this wouldn’t be an issue, but we live in an evil world with a majority that don’t take responsibity...and we’re supposed to be surprised? Just another opportunity to sound a cry of alarm for government control when parents should have been in control, like my first post about not turning into the drive thru (sp? since I don’t use them) . If we don’t support them with our money, they die. Legislation will not make people righteous and as the bible says, evil will wax worse and worse. We either take personal responsibility or not, but don’t think there will be a government or societal fix because there won’t.
