Democrat Dannel Malloy Wins Primary; Ned Lamont Makes Concession Speech; Republican Tom Foley Ahead (as of 9:54pm)
In a major come-from-behind upset, Democrat Dannel Malloy won the gubernatorial primary Tuesday night as Greenwich cable TV entrepreneur Ned Lamont conceded the race in a speech in Bridgeport.
Malloy had been behind in the polls for more than six months, but he roared back with a strategy of targeting "prime'' voters who have a history of voting in Democratic primaries.
On the Republican side, Greenwich multi-millionaire Tom Foley was ahead in the early results in the GOP primary. Both Malloy and Foley had been ahead since the results started pouring in.
Malloy was holding a 58 percent to 42 percent lead with 47 percent of the precincts reporting, statewide. The polling places represented in the early results were mostly in small towns, spread throughout the state. Lamont had expected to poll well in cities and large towns, especially in and around Hartford and New Haven...

Double darn. Daria worked for it. She and her sister were out asking for votes. Peckinpaugh came out of nowhere and late as I recall.
Yeah I remember that. I remember all the greats, from The Big Boss Man, to the Ultimate Warrior, to even Doink the Clown..man those were the days. Now that got that annoying as hell Nexus(Hope John Cena and his crew can win on Sunday), I’m actually beginning to like Randy Orton, he is nuts, but in a good way
Dannel Malloy and Nancy Wyman giving their victory speeches right now on CTN. OMG... Wyman has the most horrible voice. Like nails on a blackboard. Hope she does a lot of radio ads... LOL!
Yup. Now we've got to do everything in our power to ensure CT doesn't end up with a 'RAT House and Senate AND a 'RAT governor, Lt. governor and attorney general. {{{shudder}}}
I agree. I know she's a typical northeastern RINO, but - like it or not - we've got to get behind Linda to beat Blumenthal this November.
The low turnoutexpected to be 30 percent or lesshad Democrats worried about the November general election . . . DeStefano (pictured) arrived around 8:45 p.m. to Ned Lamonts post-election gathering at Bridgeports Testos Restaurant (owned by Bridgeports Democratic machine boss).DeStefano was handed a VIP pass. Instead, he walked into the grand ballroom, where Bridgeport politicos and campaign staff milled around over plates of pigs-in-blanket and spanakopita. They watched early results come in on projectors.
The buzz in the air was about how few voters showed up to the polls.
If the voter turnout is as low as is being predicted, its not a good message for Democrats, DeStefano said
Well, Glassman is out of it... she lost to the woman with the horrible voice, Nancy Wyman. We live right next to Simsbury, where Mary Glassman is mayor. She is VERY popular there...
I know Daria worked hard, and was truly the best candidate for conservatives. One question: Did Daria refuse to debate Peckinpaugh and Dubitsky (sp?) a few weeks ago?
I didn't hear/see one radio/TV ad for Peckinpaugh, but I did hear a radio ad for Daria Novak. How did Peckinpaugh pull off this win so easily... name recognition?
Dubitsky's repetitive radio ad "Doug Dubitsky is the only candidate that can beat Joe Courtney" was truly AWFUL. Glad I don't have to hear that again.
If the voter turnout is as low as is being predicted, its not a good message for Democrats, DeStefano said
This is just anecdotal, but in my town around 5pm, the Republican side in my polling place was busy... I had to wait in line a few minutes. Only one person was voting on the 'RAT side.
Outside our polling place, I only saw Republicans holding signs, no democRATs (this town is about 50/50 R/D, maybe slightly more Republican).
Also, earlier in the day I drove by a polling place in East Hartford - a bastion of democRATs. There was ONE guy standing outside with one Malloy/Wyman sign, and no one other than poll workers were there. It was weird...
Yikes.. anyone have any inside knowledge about this?
If she had been one of the Manson Family and just released from prison, if the GOP backed her, she would still be the darling of the District 2 electorate.
Both she and Dubitsky were recruited and reregistered for the sole purpose of defeating Novak, a true outsider and tea party conservative. Novak's defeat also reveals the weakness of the Diustrict 2 Tea Party, that failed to endorse her early on. People would have identified with her better if she had been strongly supported by the Tea Party, not just some of it's more active members.
People tend to get the government they deserve.
Also famous name which also was a help why Janet won.
Well when I went to vote yesterday, I was the ONLY one there. The poll workers must have been just happy to see ANYONE who showed up. Even there was someone who had a Malloy/Wyman, and a few other Dems signs nailed together unto one poll when I first walked in. When I came out, there was NO ONE holding up the sign. Talked to a lady who was driving in and she even QUESTIONED why even bother to have a primary to begin with. Could not blame her for saying it.
I think having Doug Dubinsky was the worse thing for Daria to have. The ad was just plan BAD. Plus I do believe it was the famous name that got Janet in.
Doug Dubinsky had split the conservative votes between Novak and him.
The original Doink the Clown (Matt Borne) is going to be hanging up his Doink wig after this weekend. He is going to be at the NWA Southwest Parade of Champions Show this Saturday August 14 at the Gainesville High School Gymnasium in Gainesville, TX.
After the match someone is going to get the green haired wig.
my guy won state rep race by 166 votes ... Martha Dean, conservative for A.G. squashed RINO Garber. David Pia for State Senate appears to have beaten RINO Hammers by about 200 votes.
Numerous bad guys snuck in. 90 votes separated state rep race in Westbrook. NARAL Ritter losing by 3 votes in DEM primary for House. Leftist incumbent Roldan winning by 9 votes in DEM primary for HOUSE.
If conservatives could only stop chasing after all the pipe dream candidates and actually get involved in politics, it couldn’t help having an impact.
