DeMint: It's been four years since Bush was responsible for economic policy
The Hill ^ | 8/10/10 | Mike Obrien

It's been four years since President George W. Bush could be held responsible for the nation's economy, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said Monday evening.

DeMint dismissed a key part of Democrats' midterm messaging — warning voters against a return to Bush-era policies — reasoning that Democrats have been controlling U.S. economic policies during the past four years in which they've controlled Congress.

"The president [Obama] keeps saying he inherited this, but the fact is that it's been four years since President Bush had anything to do with economic policy," DeMint said during an appearance on WVOC radio in South Carolina.

The South Carolina conservative sought to rebut an argument advanced by Democrats from President Obama on down in recent months: Returning Republicans to power in Congress would mean a return to some of the policies voters found less popular during the Bush administration.

"The policies that crashed the economy, that undercut the middle class, that mortgaged our future, do we really want to go back to that, or do we keep moving our country forward?" Obama said Monday at a Democratic fundraiser, part of a sustained effort to hammer away at Bush.

Not really.

Bush’s mismanagement was 50% responsible for the idiot sitting in the White House now.

John McCain proivided the OTHER 50% of the responsibility.

You are letting the GOP congressional leadership off the hook. They, along with McCain/Precious were pimping TARP, to their eternal shame.

I’ve been reading that here for some time now. Ya think he just signed up or is he just a lurker?

This is a good theme for the elections, it stings on several planes.

Obama made the comment that D was for driving forward, and R for reversal (republican) However, they are the ones looking in the R - rearview mirror.

Their hypocris
y never ceases to amaze me.

GOP Congress 2001-2006 - 4.8% unemployment. 9 million jobs created!

Dem Congress 2007-2010 - 9% unemployment. 8 million jobs lost!

Who gets the keys?

I’d hardly call a 4.5% unemployment rate under Bush as mismanagement. The media and the drones are responsible for the zero in the WH. Plus, McCain’s age worked against him. He had no fire, no passion in his belly.

If it weren’t for Sarah, he wouldn’t have gotten the votes he did.

Stop blaming Bush. The economy wasn’t that bad under his administration.

Complete BS. Most of the responsibility is the faux Conservtive clowns in the Media. They, like you, spent all their time whining hysterically about how bad Bush and the GOP sucked. After hearing that same song and dance from you faux Conservative for 8 years, it is no wonder the people decides to fire the GOP.

You are the most effective campaign activists for the Democrat Party. Want to see who is to blame for 0? Look in the mirror.

I would think that his recent staff hire, the lovely Amanda Cartpenter, is at least a lurker.

True.

Boehner and McConnell should have been given the boot back in 2008.

That is wishful thinking. Pointing out that democrats held the congress since 2007 and did NOT inherit the economy in 2009 is valid. (This is especially valid argument for an off year congressional election.)

But claiming that Bush had NOTHING to do with the economy since 2006 is not remotely believable at all. Who went on TV and plead for TARP blank check and the first stimulus package in 2008? You think Bush would do that if he didn't think he'd be held responsible? He made too many statements to the contrary. Remember how he said he had to do all the bailouts in 2008 to avoid being called Hoover? (BTW : That didnt work, they still called him Hoover. ). Remember Dec 18, 2008 ... Bush: “I've abandoned free market principles to save the free market system” ?
