The time is getting close.

a demonstration in an area that must remain completely content neutral. That's insane. The Lincoln Memorial *has* content, unless they've removed Lincoln's speeches from the wall since the last time I was there.

So did the kids tell the guards to go to hell, and if not, why not??!!

I would think that in American, the national anthem would be considered “content neutral”.
To: nmh
The “content” is why the memorial is there in the first place. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Sounds like a good act of civil disobedience that should be committed during the up coming 8/28 rally!

Our national anthem is considered “non-neutral content”?
They’re not looking for completely content neutral; they want devoid of content.

Its not the content of their activity that being the national anthem its the location, he said. A couple steps and it would have been no problem whatsoever.
Instead of doing as they were instructed, Gassman said the students resumed the song an impromptu form of civil disobedience. Why does it look like this guy's searching from some reason to justify telling the kids to stop?

Being a staunch conservative I was at first appalled by this scene, but upon reflection and believing in equal application of the law I now see it's merits. The Lincoln Memorial is truly a very quiet place even with large crowds. I would not want protesters to be allowed in there or any one making a lot of noise. Out front on the steps is fine. The headline should have read students told to quit making noise in the Lincoln Memorial. The content of their noise is immaterial.

Schlosser explained that performances, regardless of content, are banned to maintain a contemplative and reverent area for the Lincoln Memorial, for the other guests and visitors. I agree with this 100%. This is a MEMORIAL folks. A place for solemn reflection. When I visited the Memorial a few years back I was appalled at the behavior of some of the visitors - loud like it was an amusement park.
Doesn't matter what they were singing. This is not the place.

Singing the National Anthem is now considered a “demonstration”? Infuriating. But have faith that, one way or the other, the Marxist Usurper and his band of angry commies will be driven from Washington and beyond.
The key is to use this fury to get yourself and at least one other person to the polls and vote for conservative candidates this November. And then do the same thing November 2012 for the presidential election. I have no doubt the Marxists will be giving you plenty to feed your anger even after this November’s elections.
