That's insane. The Lincoln Memorial *has* content, unless they've removed Lincoln's speeches from the wall since the last time I was there.

I would think that in American, the national anthem would be considered “content neutral”.

The “content” is why the memorial is there in the first place. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Sounds like a good act of civil disobedience that should be committed during the up coming 8/28 rally!

Our national anthem is considered “non-neutral content”?

They’re not looking for completely content neutral; they want devoid of content.

“completely content neutral” my ass! Throw some f’n muslim prayer rugs out for the SOB’s to pray on, ok. Bring a boom box out jammin some 50 cent rap BS, fine. Burn the flag, pictures of Palin or Bush, okie doke. God forbid you sing America’s National Anthem at a National Memorial in America!

I’m sick and tired of this sh&%! November isn’t going to help one iota with Kagan and Sontameyer (and Lord knows who else) on the SC! Along with all of the lame duck crap these pissants in DC will pass between November and January!

When will flying the Stars and Stripes be deemed divisive?

“It’s not the content of their activity – that being the national anthem – it’s the location,” he said. “A couple steps and it would have been no problem whatsoever.”

Instead of doing as they were instructed, Gassman said the students resumed the song – an impromptu form of civil disobedience.

Why does it look like this guy's searching from some reason to justify telling the kids to stop?

Being a staunch conservative I was at first appalled by this scene, but upon reflection and believing in equal application of the law I now see it's merits. The Lincoln Memorial is truly a very quiet place even with large crowds. I would not want protesters to be allowed in there or any one making a lot of noise. Out front on the steps is fine. The headline should have read students told to quit making noise in the Lincoln Memorial. The content of their noise is immaterial.

Schlosser explained that performances, regardless of content, are banned to “maintain a contemplative and reverent area for the Lincoln Memorial, for the other guests and visitors.”

I agree with this 100%. This is a MEMORIAL folks. A place for solemn reflection. When I visited the Memorial a few years back I was appalled at the behavior of some of the visitors - loud like it was an amusement park.

Doesn't matter what they were singing. This is not the place.

It is interesting that THIS federal "law" is upheld but the one about securing our borders is not

Singing the National Anthem is now considered a “demonstration”? Infuriating. But have faith that, one way or the other, the Marxist Usurper and his band of angry commies will be driven from Washington and beyond.

The key is to use this fury to get yourself and at least one other person to the polls and vote for conservative candidates this November. And then do the same thing November 2012 for the presidential election. I have no doubt the Marxists will be giving you plenty to feed your anger even after this November’s elections.
