Diboll officer involved in controversial traffic stopped resigns

Diboll police officer Grant Jones has resigned amid a flurry of debate surrounding a controversial traffic stop last week.

Jones gave his formal resignation Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. "His resignation was short, and to the point," according to Diboll City Manager Dennis McDuffie.

[...]

Upon hearing of Jones' resignation, [victim] Johnny Hodge said it's good that Jones realized he was wrong and stepped down from his position. The city attorney for Diboll has promised to release the Diboll Police dash cam video on Wednesday.

The stop in question occurred on July 27 as Tracey Lott was driving his friend, Johnny Hodge, to a hospital when he was pursued by Diboll Police into Lufkin city limits. Lott pulled over at the intersection of U.S. 59 and College Street, where Jones used his pistol to shatter the windshield.

Lufkin Police was called as backup and their police dash cam video shows Officer Jones holding the driver, Tracey Lott, in his custody for about 30 minutes.

[...]

McDuffie said Jones' resignation followed an internal investigation into a traffic stop where Jones detained an elderly man during a medical emergency. He said the internal investigation found while Officer Jones did many things right during that traffic stop, "some procedures were not properly followed."

From Thursday's story in The Dallas Morning News:

A Diboll police officer... berating a driver who was rushing his 73-year-old passenger to a hospital.

Protectin'!

Officer Grant Jones...with his gun drawn, breaking the driver's side window and hauling out Lott.

Servin'!

Hodge can be heard saying "I have a doctor waiting on me." Jones replies, "It don't make no difference"

Protectin'!

"just because you got a medical problem, don't think you can come out here on the highway and do whatever you want to do. When you get to the hospital you're going to have a pair of handcuffs waiting on you."

Servin'!

Have fun applying for unemployment, Officer Fatface McDouchebag.

PS - Diboll is deep, deep behind the Pine Curtain in East Texas, a place crawling with inbred, gun-toting maniac cops like ol' Officer Lardass McPistolwhip, above. This story represents just one of the 100,101 Reasons Not To Go To East Texas For Any Reason Ever.

Is it better to get to West Texas via Oklahoma panhandle?

An asinine occifer. Ought to have offered to call an ambulance to the spot, at the least. If that would take too long then should have provided sirens/lights escort to the car to the hospital.

PROTIP: Stay on I-20. Drive at the maximum legal speed. Roll up all windows and lock all doors. Scrape off any college window decals, Knights of Columbus stickers, or any other items on your car that might indicate literacy, intelligence, or membership in a non-Evangelical church. If possible, male drivers should have hockey hair and/or a “molester/cop”-type mustache. Stay in the left lane and don’t ack lahk yer better’n’ anybody else.

Do not stop until you get to US 75 in Dallas.

If you have out-of-state tags, if you drive a Volvo, or if you “look diffurnt” or “talk funny”, go via Oklahoma.

Not all cops are bad, but for too many of them, the universe revolves around their own egos.

No group of people is “all bad”. Certain groups, however, are attractive to bad people. The typical U.S. municipal police department, as curently construed, is such a group.

Born in Texas. Raised in Texas. Texarkana Texas High School graduate, 198X.

East Texas is a wasteland. I know — I lived there for fifteen endless years. Casse-toi, beauf plumer-banjo.

They don’t so much “go after” Catholics as they assume that only Mexicans are Catholic.

Yep. Like every other person with any dreams or ambition, HRP got the f-— out of Texarkana and never looked back.

Back in the first half of the 80s the Morning News (Belo Belo Belo par) ran a story on HRP in which he said that during the Depression (not this one) the homeless ("hobos" -- though that term has fallen into disuse, it seems) identified his family's home as a place where they could receive needed assistance, be it food or a blanket, if memory serves. If this is the truth, the Perots were indeed big-hearted people.
