How do I remove the water saver valve in my showerhead? ^

Posted on 08/06/2010 1:07:55 PM PDT by Weird Tolkienish Figure

All shower heads and hand held shower head sets sold in the United States contain a flow restrictor, also known as a flow controller, as required by the National Energy Act that limit water flow to 2.5 gallons per minute. This helps save water and energy, which could help you save money on your utility bill. Removing the shower head or hand held shower flow restrictor will increase your water and energy consumption. It will also increase the amount of water flowing through your shower head or hand held shower head for increased water pressure through your shower head or hand held shower.

I drilled the hole in the flow restricter just a little bit bigger. Now I can take real showers and still not break the bank on my water bill.

So far, all of my “restrictors” have been removable, and have been removed. Now, if someone would just make a plastic tank extender for the toilet so I can get back to the 5-gallon flush, it would be great.

Once upon a time, I was on the road all the time as a field test engineer.

I’m a large, happy, strapping fellow — and I like a nice, voluminous shower after a long, hot day grubbing around on construction sites, where the product I tested was installed.

I used to carry in my baggage a modest set of hand tools — nothing exotic; pliers, screwdrivers, etc.

I always removed the flow restrictor in my hotel room shower. Always. (Unless it was already missing, and had a decent flow.

I always also removed that annoying little metal stop, that prevented opening the windows more than a couple of inches. I like, nice, wide-open windows, especially in spring and fall and mild weather.

They tell me the little metal window-blocking stop was a suicide preventer. Yeah. Like THAT would make the difference for some despondent guy.

All my little contribution to Improving America as I traveled, one little contrary act at a time to beat the enviro-nazis.

Low flow shower heads usually produce a finer spray. A finer spray dissipates it's heat to the air before it reaches the bod so ppl crank up the hot water.

We got a new kitchen faucet. Water dribbled out and the sprayer didn’t work. Called up customer service. Yes that’s how it’s supposed to work. Whatever you do don’t unscrew the faucet and remove the red flow restricter though.
