Eight House Republicans, After Carrying Climate Effort Last Year, Fend Off Attacks
New York Times ^ | August 5, 2010 | EVAN LEHMANN

A tiny knot of outliers -- eight Republicans -- left the House floor last summer facing threats of electoral ambush, "heartache" from constituents, and an online wanted poster declaring them turncoats.

The challenges came. But the lawmakers are still around, more than a year after breaking ranks with 96 percent of their caucus to provide the deciding votes for a mega-bill that would make carbon dioxide a tradable commodity. They voted for cap and trade.

Other members of the climate eight, including Reps. Mary Bono Mack of California and Kirk of Illinois, who's running for Obama's Senate seat, also skated through their primary races. Castle of Delaware faces a Sept. 14 primary challenger to finish Biden's Senate term in Christine O'Donnell, who was endorsed by the Tea Party Express.

Get him before he votes again

Her campaign is warning that Castle could provide the swing vote for a climate bill in November or December, an unlikely scenario in which the Senate takes up a cap-and-trade bill in the lame duck session. The winner of the special election will be seated immediately

"He has already voted for Cap and Tax, and he will do it again," O'Donnell says on her website.

I realize that Mike Castle leaves a lot to be desired. However, Obama is more popular there than in just about any other state. One recent poll gave him an approval rating of 62% in Delaware. This should not be taken lightly.

These guys are no good.

Carbon Tax or Cap and Trade are the TAXES that Elites need to pay for their New World Order.

The final member, Rep. Dave Reichart of Washington state, has been less inclined than some of his group colleagues to backtrack on his climate position of last year. Reichart still emphasizes on his website that the "mounting effects" of global warming is "one of the fundamental challenges" to the nation. He touts his support for cap and trade.

How did Mary Bono Mack turn into such a RINO? Sonny is shuttering in his grave.

Mike Castle’s approval has been falling like a rock!

He lost 8 points in a couple of months and since then, we have had DISCLOSE and FinReg - Oh, FinReg will bankrupt Delaware - Nice move Mike!

On the other hand, Christine has been climbing fast and has the support of Tea Parties throughout the State.

Castle says he wants the Senate seat because he can be more ‘Independent’ - and says he will not be part of a Republican opposition... - Just think, with McCain, Graham, Judd, Snowe, Collins,Castle, et.al. would you have a majority even if you had 51 R’s?

Well, I guess it is just a mite better than Conservative Sen. John Heinz wife marrying Kerry after he died.

The Cap’N’Traitor’s vote was the last straw. He has sooo lost touch with the people and sooo lost touch with reality. Time to come home, Mike. Time to come home.

And really, isn’t Christine far easier on the eyes? :)

That reminds me - LoBiondo sent me a letter a few weeks back talking about all the great things he’s done like voting against Obamacare and asking for at least $35 to help his campaign - I’ve got to write back reminding him that he voted for Cap and Tax, and giving half of what he wanted - $17.50 - and observing that unfortunately I can’t split my vote in the fall, and wondering which way it will eventually go......

Can anyone please link to a thread showing that poster? Or the poster itself?

Carbon credits is worse that simple increased taxes. It taxes an imaginary concept to enrich criminal politicians and their friends.

Still enough reason to keep these losers front and center.

We’ve got our work cut out for us, but about 20,000 votes for Christine in the primary should top Castle - plus Christine is already up 2 over Coons (D) and gaining, while Castle lost 8 to him and Coons gained 4 on Castle. (Rasmussen-July)

Graham isn’t up this time - we all really need to get really serious about getting out the vote in ALL 2010 elections!

LOL, guess this old septuagenarian turns into a pumpkin at midnight! Or maybe it is from my Pennsylvania Dutch Grandmother - She would say things like ‘You can lead a horse to drink but you can’t make him water.’ Which after some thought is also true... ‘Run the road down’ turn the schoolhouse around’, for go down the road and turn at the schoolhouse. Well, really, Kerry LOOKS dead - maybe that is the offender.

That was practice for speaking ‘Liberal’ - never our fault always other factors.

The bill would have passed in the house even if these so called “gang of eight” had voted against the bill. Eight democrats would have been forced by the party leadership to vote yes. By voting yes the eight republicans allowed 8 vulnerable dems to vote no on the bill. They can now go home and claim to their constituents that they are not lackeys for Obama/Pelosi.
