Its ballistic and its launch would in all likey hood be seen from orbit.

The US Navy SM-3 (RIM-161) is designed to deal with such systems.

If the chinese system can manoever in atmospher its speed is going to be farily low (by rentry vehicle standards) and may be with in the SM-2 engagement envelope.

“East Wind, Rain” was one of three possible “execute” messages which Japanese diplomats around the world had been alerted to begin listening for on November 19th. They were told to monitor the regular news and weather broadcasts from Tokyo, just as they always did, but to pay especially careful attention to the phraseology employed to describe the weather.

If they heard the words “North Wind, Cloudy,” it meant war with the Soviet Union.

If they heard the words “West Wind, Clear,” it meant war with the British Empire.

And if they heard the words “East Wind, Rain,” it meant war with the United States.

Using a ballistic missile to track and hit a moving target seems like a task out of their reach.

With an initial estimate within a hundred miles or so, finding a flat metal flight deck on water shouldn't be that hard. The rest is software.

Agreed.

Other “super weapons” previously hyped by a credulous media, that will destroy America’s military superiority/inflict massive unsustainable casualties:

T-80 Tank;
MiG 25;
TU-22 Backfire Bomber;
Typhoon Class SSBN;
Akula Class/Project 971 SSN;
Kilo Class SS;
SS-25 Mobile ICBM;
Iranian Speedboat Flotillas...

Anyone else?

China won’t move on S. Korea, they are a big investor and trading partner; Taiwan is another kettle of fish.

And this would stop us how? The super-carrier is not the thing China needs to worry about. The Seawolf and Virgina class subs are the difference makers.

How is the missile going to avoid the Aegis Phalanx? When bullets meets supersonic missile, physics take over.

“China won’t move on S. Korea, they are a big investor and trading partner”

Maybe, but the relationship is ambivalent. As noted in this article, Korea used to be China’s vassal state.
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2010/02/113_42199.html

What happens if N. Korea implodes? Is China going to accept a unified Korea having strong ties to the U.S.? I concur that the prospect of military action is much lower in Korea than in Taiwan, but I don’t think China differentiates that much between military and economic power. A “show of force” may well be thought to be a sensible action to parallel economic pressures China might wish to apply to S. Korea to get it to do its bidding.

My point is that what might have constituted “unacceptable” Chinese military behavior in the past is today far more likely to be grudgingly accepted by the U.S. on grounds they don’t want to rock the boat etc.

Hell, we already know that clinton gave them technology that is being used on ballistic missiles. Obastard will give them anything else they need.

Take this with a grain of salt. This is the media that only found out the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was a Democrat hoax 104 days later than Rush Limbaugh.

I don't buy it.

Hitting a 3 x football field from 900miles away while it's traveling at 40knots...with a BALLISTIC missile?

And, it would have to penetrate AGEIS and Phallanx.

I call BS.

Even if they could pull it off, there would be advanced warning of a ballistic missile launch. The Pacific fleet has 16 Aegis cruisers assigned with SM-2 and -3, which are capable of providing defense for the vessels. I have more confidence in our ablility to intercept the warhead over their ability to hit the intended target.

Thanks NormsRevenge.
...a game-changing weapon being developed by China -- an unprecedented carrier-killing missile called the Dong Feng 21D that could be launched from land with enough accuracy to penetrate the defenses of even the most advanced moving aircraft carrier at a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers (900 miles).
Just curious -- how many Chinese live downstreat of the Three Gorges Dam?
