The Republican mayor of San Diego, who defied elements in his party by declaring in 2007 that he supports same-sex marriage, said he is "absolutely thrilled" by the court ruling striking down Proposition 8, the voter-approved measure that banned same-sex marriages.
"I think Judge Walker did a great job of listening to the arguments and making the right decision," said Mayor Jerry Sanders, just minutes before attending a celebratory rally at San Diego's Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transsexual Community Center.
Sanders said he would like San Diego County to resume issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples but he understands the need to wait until litigation is complete, probably with a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Before long, the media will have done a cover story on every single degenerate and libertine in the USA who favors this ruling. Meanwhile, the Missouri vote on Obama’s keystone issue will have been dismissed in a few back-page “analysis” pieces.

I wonder if Rudy is having a celebratory party with his pink mafia friends.
Not only defying the Ca. state law by voters but also in defiance of the natural laws of God. Despicable liberal in RINO’s clothing! So what else is new!
This is a win-win situation for a political prostitute. Run as a conservative but support the liberal agenda. That way if you have an R beside your name, you get all the robots that vote R. And the liberals are pushing you really hard so you get all their bussed-in voters. This guy stands for nothing but himself and the voters are too stupid. We have that same thing here with Lindsey Graham.
Ewww. Sounds like one of those bathroom-stall, foot-tapping type of Republicans. Disgusting. Maybe he can go lock lips with Arnie, and then they can jump off a cliff together.
One of the most liberal states in the country had the majority of it's population vote on two separate votes and we said NO to gay marriage both times.
When do we get our voices heard? Oh that's right, I have no rights.
Trolling for votes we see.
Poster boy for why it isn’t about party, it’s about principals. Anyone who votes for these people is part of the problem, while conservatives are part of the solution.
What you said BTTT
Three equal branches of government? Hell no.
I am so damn mad and tired of the damn legislating from the bench.
When fascism comes to America it will be by one radical activist “judge” in a pink robe nullifying the DEMOCRATIC votes of 7 million voters. Translation: Fascism is here in America.
This issue is not about homosexuality, it is about the very essence of democracy. 7 million Californians voted against so called, “gay marriage” and ONE GAY JUDGE said THEIR DEMOCRATIC VOTE IS MEANINGLESS. Be VERY afraid.
The Mayor is a non-partisan office. The LAT mentioned his party only because he claims Republican.
I know! One guy says, to the state of CA, I don’t agree with you so to h*ll with your lousy democracy!
The judge is a perfect example of the ruling class Rush was talking about. He lives in San Francisco and his ruling was all about the desire to be liked and to fit in in the local community.
Luckily Sanders is in for a big surprise because the ruling will surely be overturned. To allow an avowed homosexual judge to decide a case regarding his own lifestyle choice is like allowing a proud pedophile to preside over a case involving child molestation. Walker should have recused himself and only guarantees his idiotic ruling will be struck down.
Sanders is an ultra left wing piece of crap!
San Diego becoming like L.A. now?
There’s a stay on it - nothing has changed - yet, but Sanders’ pandering is beyond disgusting.
