MEXICO CITY (Dow Jones)--U.S. automobile giant General Motors Co. said Tuesday it plans to invest close to $500 million in its Ramos Arizpe plant in northern Mexico to produce a new line of engines as well as a new vehicle.
Of that amount, the company is investing $284 million to manufacture eight-cylinder engines with spark-ignition direct-injection technology, known as SIDI, Grace Lieblein, chief executive of GM de Mexico, said at an event.
"We estimate that these technologies allow for a 9% improvement in fuel efficiency from current engines," Lieblein said, adding that the investment will directly create 390 jobs in Coahuila state, where Ramos Arizpe is located.

They wiped out the GM bondholders (the pension funds, little old ladies, etc.) to do stuff like this???
$&@%ing bull&@%#!!!
sleazy mexican scum alert...and GM scum too!
"You don't want the illegals here, I'll just send YOUR money down there and save 'em a trip!"
“The more jobs in Mexico, the fewer illegal immigrants from there, no?”
The more guns we have on the border facing south, the fewer illegal immigrants from Mexico we’ll have.
I am sure the Liberal Free Trader Globalists will love this! The “F-— America Free Traders” have no problem with American companies shipping jobs out of the country...and this time with our tax dollars

When 0bama was talking about saved or created jobs, I guess we all just ASSumed he was talking about American jobs.
Hahaha. rather than pay high union scale here they
are going out of country. Why? because if they built
them here the cost to consumers would be too much.
Too bad union goons, the next GM car you want to buy
will cost less but you won’t be able to afford it.
Not to mention the learning curve of mexican workers,
I sure wouldn’t want to buy one of the first ten
thousand off the line.
Is the Chevy Cruz-e built in Mexico?

I was a Chevrolet dealer line mechanic in 1984 and our biggest headache was the engines that were stamped “Hecho en Mexico” to the best of my remembering.
Total crap as far as quality control, many of my fellow mechanics swear it was deliberate sabotage against the rich Norte Americano.
The detail of poor machining and assembly was done to pass the casual inspection but we always saw something like an oil passage blocked with debris, oils seals on the valves cut, broken piston rings etc.
Seriously, my advice to all FReepers, check out if any part of any vehicle you buy comes from Mexico, I would rather install an aftermarket part from Taiwan or even China than something complicated like an engine assembly, there are some parts like window regulators that for the most part are so simple they cannot be sabotaged, I just had to replace mine on my Silverado recently.
As much as I want a GM product sadly they have also lost me as a current and future buyer.
