No, the kid screwed up and she must face the punishment just like any other kid. I just hope that happens and she is not let off because of who she is.

More the opposite....Caroline allegedly stole makeup from Sephora's E. 86th Street and Lexington Avenue store around 2 p.m., sources said. Store managers insisted on pressing charges, and when officials discovered who the suspect was, several high-ranking officers were dispatched to the store, an unusual measure for a shoplifting charge.

On the internet there are lists of stores that prosecute for shop-lifting and Sephora is one of them. IOW's, it ain't Wal*Mart. From Zoklet.net in the loss Prevention section, here is an item of interest:

Sephora: Will Chase/Will issue civil demand and call police, may prosecute depending on circumstances, will issue a trespass order for 1 year/No plainclothes/No monthly quota on shoplifting aprehensions/Very well and actively-monitored cameras that are full colour, and can pan as well as zoom in/nothing has a security tag/

There is one dedicated employee who monitors all the cameras, and has radio contact with all (or just the LPs) staff members in the store/There are generally more than 2 LPs active in the store with the camera guy behind the scenes/LP is well trained and even regular staff has a degree of LP training.

Anyone would be a fool to try and shop lift at that store. Security is Casino tight :)

She'll get "let off" because the value of the merchandise was less than $200. It's a misdemeanor.

I'm currently serving as a grand jury foreman, so I'm a know-it-all.
