Teaching is more an art than a discipline. Forcing people to study education in college and then go into a thankless job as a public school educator is bad enough; forcing minorities who don’t care about education to study education in college and then go into a thankless job as a public school educator is criminal! We would be doing a disservice to the kids by forcing people who don’t want to teach into teaching through enticement (scholarships, “minority” grants). The kids deserve passionate (non-sexual) educators to inspire them. I was blessed to have passionate educators, and I learned a lot on my own through the public school system.

Thankless job? Public school teaching is the world’s highest paid, semi-skilled part-time job in the world. Most - not all - public school teachers in Texas and elsewhere today would have a hard time finding indoor work with no heavy lifting if it weren’t for the “schools”. Roughly 40-50% of new teachers leave within the first 5 years or so because they have discovered that government schools are not what they thought they were. The ones left behind are mainly - not all - those who can’t find work that pays as well. Consequently, the evolutionary factor in government school faculties for over 20 years has been “reverse Darwin” - the survival of the unfittest.

Government school employees aren’t noble; they aren’t saints; and, they are “over-thanked” (overpaid). Then we could discuss what they are actually doing to children spiritually, morally, and intellectually. Unfortunately, it would require a book to describe the pathologies of the government schools and the vermin who tend to infest them.
