Democrat Bill White's campaign is encouraging Texas' arts crowd to focus on Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
A supporter of the former Houston mayor is organizing independent filmmakers to show the short films they are making on behalf of his campaign, White spokesman Katy Bacon said Thursday. The films will premiere at an as-yet unscheduled White campaign event in Austin.
The initiative came into the spotlight after Perry's campaign noted that a filmmaker advertised on an actors' website for a look-alike for Perry, the state's longest-serving governor who is known for his thick mane of hair. The impersonator would be cast for low-budget "comic Webisodes," the ad said.
The ad, placed by Red Western Films, says the job is a paid one, but the rate isn't set yet. Shooting will take place in August.
"Although they are ads, they will feel like little two-minute sitcom episodes," the casting ad stated...
"The goal of this effort is to harness the creative energy of independent Texan filmmakers to support Bill White," she said, noting that the campaign is playing a supporting role in the making of the ads. "We worked with people and tried to help give them ideas."
Perry spokesman Mark Miner says White's campaign sinks lower every day.
"Perhaps Bill White will be paying these actors from the money President Obama is raising for him next month," Miner said, referring to Obama's fundraising trip to Texas in August.
Initially, Bacon referred to the film event as a "contest" and then a "festival," but later the event's organizer, film producer Duncan Montgomery, said it's really an "initiative."
"It's not a festival - there are no winners or losers," Montgomery said in an e-mailed statement...

The FEC is a corrupt agency that no longer tracks illegal campaign contributions. The sky is the limit so long as DemocRats are receiving.

Freepmail me or ping me from the original thread to get on/off the 2010 Texas Governor's Race ping list.
'Conflicting Schedules' don't ya know.
For TX to be such a great state we sure do have a crappy choice for gov this time.
Once he is reelected, it won't be long before you start hearing about a presidential run.
I actually think he and Sarah Palin will team up, they have history as oil-producing state governors and I've seen him eyeing her when together.
As lousy as last election when Chrissy Bell was running against Perry, One Tough Grandma, and Kinky Friedman.
Rick Perry is the luckiest politician ever.
Having lived under the reign of White with his sanctuary city policies, tow truck royal monopolies, tax initiatives and give aways for professional sports venues, and red light cameras, I will emphatically vote AGAINST his bid for the state house. The only positive thing I can saw about him is that he was a step up from LeePee. Houston is a great town, but, man, can we pick ‘em.
