Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner: Unemployment Could Go Up Before It Comes Down

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner acknowledged that it is still a "tough economy" for most Americans, and warned it's possible the unemployment rate will go up for a couple of months before it comes down as more people enter the labor force.
When they see a little hope that there may be jobs out there, they start to come back in again. And that can cause the measured unemployment rate to go up temporarily," Geithner told "Good Morning America's" George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview. "But what we expect to see, and I think most forecasters expect this
is an economy that's gradually healing, gradually strengthening, businesses starting to add people back."
The economy is not rebounding as quickly as Geithner and the Obama administration would like, he said. Last week's economic report card showed the Gross Domestic Product grew at a rate of 2.4 percent, slower than it had earlier this year.

“unemployment rate will go up for a couple of months before it comes down as more people enter the labor force.”
Do we actually pay this moron for idiotic statements like this?

Brilliant.
He and Obama make a perfect team of people working on things beyond their pay level.
To: MindBender26
Wasn’t it BO who said the unemployment rate wouldn’t go over 8%?

This is exactly what Peter and Hull warned us about in their book. These folks have reached their “Peter Principle”.

Mt. Geithner, given your debacle dealing with the IRS, how about fixing the income tax system so we cut the compliance cost tremendously and encouraging American citizens and businesses to keep their savings and capital investments in the USA? Maybe we should seriously look at the Steve Forbes flat tax plan for a start, which would result in TRILLIONS of dollars in liquidity returning to the USA because we no longer impose taxes on bank account interest, capital gains and dividend payments.

Before businesses begin to use the estimated $1.8 trillion they have set aside, they want a commitment that their taxes will not increase over the next two years. Geithner did not make that promise, instead saying "the business community always wants their taxes lower.""It's understandable. And you could say that's what their job is, to argue for lower taxes. But our job is, again, to make sure we have an economy that is stronger, that a private sector that's going to grow in the future
Our responsibility is looking out for that public interest," Geithner
--
He said "of course we will raise taxes, how else will we buy the votes to keep us in power?" Does he have a clue how deep the hole he is digging really is?

And that can cause the measured unemployment rate to go up temporarily," Geithner told "Good Morning America's" George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview. Didn't see the 'exclusive' but I'm sure it was another fawning interview of a BO appointed administration official by the 'Rat operative Georgie S. That's why he gets the 'exclusive' interviews.

I predict that unemployment will go down when Geithner and his boss are unemployed.

These numbers are so much B.S.
It’s like the “stimulus” program “saving or creating XX million jobs.” How is it that you aren’t counted as unemployed unless you are actively looking (and who says they aren’t looking anyways)? Unemployed is unemployed. Those numbers should be counted. It’s just a lot of card shuffling to keep the numbers low.
