A statement on the organization's website said: " Appalled by the opposition to plans by American Muslims to build a community center in lower Manhattan modeled after Jewish Community Centers (JCC's) and Y's all over the country, J Street is collecting petitions in support of religious freedom and against anti-Muslim bigotry.

In NYC, the most prominent 'Y' is the 92nd Street Y. It's a couple of miles from the remains of the World Trade Center. There is no talk of needing to relocate it near Ground Zero.

The Y and Jewish Community Center are in RESIDENTIAL neighborhoods with, uh, lots of Jews.

Downtown Manhattan is primarily offices, and there sure ain't an overplus of Moslems populating the $1,000/sf condo towers there.

The same way we stop socialists or fascists, the free marketplace of ideas not throwing our precious traditions o property rights and the first amendment out the window. It might help, of course, if we stopping policing the world. Let me ask you a question: do you REALLY believe that politicians and zoning bureaucrats should be able to decide who has “dangerous” views and doesn’t? I trust the constitution.

“I trust the constitution.”

As I understand it, establishing a Islamic theocracy is not just a “viewpoint”, it is a fundamental tenent of their religion. Do you think that if the Episcopal church has an established doctrine to replace every government where they operate that they would be permitted to operate in that way in this country? What if a coprporation in its chartering documents had the replacement of the US Constitution as one of its purposes? How would our government would react to that? Or the news media if they found out?

Islam has started by placing politicians and judges, buying control of news media outlets and infiltrating universities just as the left has.

But this foe is different from the left in that they operate according to a published set of principles in the Koran that defines their religion. The Left has principles, but they are not institutionalized in the same way. Real and subversive: yes. Institutionalized: no.

One way or another, they will force us into a confrontation on a large scale. Islam represents a domestic threat to the Constitution because they are committed to undermining and abolishing it. Try preserving the Constitution “as is” when they have the court system stacked against it. In that regard, I think that we are in a far more precarious situation than you think. Our culture is being diluted and the Constitution is in danger because of it.

Am I comfortable placing that kind of question in the hands of government? Absolutely not. I am a practicing Christian. But ignoring this issue without facing it head on will be a fatal mistake. The issue must be raised, if for no other reason, to raise awareness among the masses who do not understand the threat to this country from Islam. Comparatively speaking, jets crashing into the WTC is dwarfed by the real threat. . . . IMHO

What are you talking about???!!! I am saying that politicians should not have the power to decide, whether their names are Cuomo, Palin, or Ron Paul. That’s why we have a first amendment and constitution that protects the property rights of ALL Americnas.
