I've been known to have pretty much cleaned out my desk before I got laid off.
How did I know it was coming? Simple. When all of the sudden no one above you in the chain of command will make eye contact with you when they talk to you, you know something bad is about to happen.
More than one ex-boss remains utterly convinced that someone tipped me off. Someone did. It was them.

Excellent perception skills you have - BRAVO!!! Just by the fact that you still have 'em guessing is a fantastic 'parting gift'.
I keep nothing but a calender and a bag of butterscotch/Lifesavers/gum at my workplace. No pics of people or places - nothing private.
If something comes up, nothing can be kept ‘hostage’. If they want to keep a free bank calender or bag of candy - have at it.
