Paladino changes his mind in race for governor

ALBANY (AP) -- Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino is reversing course, saying he may secure a "Taxpayers" minor party line for the general election after all if he loses the Republican primary in September.

The result could be a split of the Republican and conservative vote. Front-running Republican designee Rick Lazio has the Conservative Party line...

Reversing course leaves him open to being called a flip flopper by Lazio or Cuomo. I liked the two radio ads that Paladino made, but this could be fatal.

I can’t imagine how this is good. Once your make a decision stick with it. Perhaps run in four years.

Not the first one this year to go independent or 3rd party if they lose the Repub spot — at whose urging? The Dems seem to understand that voting third party as a protest or otherwise causes a Dem win - why can’t some Republicans understand this tactic and not fall for it?

If he loses the primary — and he may well win, he should throw his not inconsiderable influence behind Lazio.

But I still will vote for Paladino in the primaries, because he is the best candidate running in NY’s gubernatorial race.
