Even as a federal judge blocked some of the more controversial portions of a new Arizona immigration law this week, its political reverberations - and those of other immigration issues - are shaking California's statewide races.
Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is using the example of the Arizona policy to argue against places like San Francisco that have declared themselves to be sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants.
Under its 1989 policy, San Francisco law officers report felony suspects to federal immigration officials only if their legal status can't be readily confirmed.
But Fiorina said that if the U.S. Department of Justice is going to challenge Arizona for trying to create its own immigration policy that deviates from the federal policy, then the agency should be consistent and also crack down on sanctuary cities.
"If the federal government wants to take the point of view that the Obama administration and Attorney General Eric Holder seem to be taking, which is all immigration issues are federal government issues and therefore we will challenge any authority, then they ought to be applying that standard consistently, and they clearly are not," Fiorina told KPIX.
But legal analysts say sanctuary city policies aren't at all similar to an entire state creating its own immigration policy.

Fact is San Fran is in deep doo doo. Frankly they imagine that when the United States pulls out of California's Coastal Zone we are going to leave them with the water.
Bwahahahahahaha ~ leave them with the Mexicans and we keep the water and the dirt.
Fair trade Fur Shur.
But this can’t be. I thought Carly was a RINO?
Ping!
As is Gabby Giffords in the Arizona Eighth district.
I hate it, but sometimes the worst RINO is still better than the totally illegitimate alternative!!!
Yeah, "legal analysts" turns out to mean two Stalinist pleaders with the Gay Bay Liberation Front or something ....
I'm so tired of these guys picking their "authorities" and unnamed "experts" from the leftmost 30% of the political spectrum.
Fiorina's right -- Obama's screwing around and he and his solicitor general need a couple of good, hard wedgies. Kagan needs to be dumped on her butt back in her Harvard office anyway.
Obama's admitted his cynicism to Sen. John Kyl of Arizona: no enforcement on the border until you GOP senators "come to Jesus" on my amnesty bill. The guy thinks like a third-world tinpot iron man.
If anything, Fiorina needs to hit him harder. Run against Babs Boxer by running against her monstrous Pres_ent.
If they annoy us any more than they have, I propose we run all the Left-wingers and ethnic irridentists (saw more video of people flying Mexican and Cuban flags -- the latter decorated with Che's mug -- over the weekend) out of the US and all the way down to Sonora.
Then, for our trouble, I suggest we also take the head of the Gulf of California and all of Baja and send all the people there to Sonora as well, just to make the point about "silent invasions" and un-neighborly demographic policies and irridentism being a losing bet with the United States.
Boy, nuthin' gets by you!
(but they keep trying!)
Are you damning me with faint praise? (grin)
Praising, yes.
Damning, no.
That's a really weird phrase -- I had to look it up.
It definitely does NOT apply to my comment, lol.
Damn with faint praise, assent with civil leer,
And without sneering, teach the rest to
sneer;
Willing to wound, and yet afraid to strike,
Just hint a fault, and hesitate dislike.-- "Epistle to Dr Arbuthnot" by Alexander Pope (16881744)[5]
...as the last bit of MSM credibility bites the dust...
Well thank you for looking that up! I’d only heard it said and had no idea who originated the expression. I really like the “assent with civil leer,” part as I’ve been so sickened by people in public life making a great hipocritical display of civility by crying out for civility while performing a civil leer of their own. More hate and discontent comes from so many of those who claim to be so civil and it’s usually, LIBERALS & LEFTISTS! Activists and advocates!! Insipid fools and complete jerks!!!(/rant)
Ain't that the truth!
