Or, it could be that the car sucks. A 40 mile range after somehting like an 8 hour charge (@ 110 V)?
And it STILL has a fossil fuel burning engine on board in the form of a "generator" for recharging the batteries "on the go".
If you're in to the whole pseudo-green thin (i.e. you are willing to ignore the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and, ultimately, disposing of, batteries) then one of the many Hybrid cars/truck/SUVs available today is a WAY better option... ANy Hybrid.
From what I understand, you have to install a 220 V line to charge it. 110 won't work.
Except, IIRC, it doesn't recharge the batteries. It merely generates enough electricity to power the traction motors.
Given that it still costs twice as much as a Cruze (same car, conventional powertrain) and more than a Prius even after the tax credit, I predict the Volt will be a flop.
Keep in mind, there is NO trade in value for a hybrid.
No one buys a used hybrid.
The batteries last longer than the drive train. 10 years and your investment is gone. You need a new car.

The Volt requires a 220 system.......wonder how many garages have that setup.......mine does but I bought that as an option and it is new construction....not related to the Volt Game Changer either!
Wonder what a 220 install costs? $500, $750...more...are permits needed?
This is the EVI all over again...they will have to give it away and rely on government fleets to buy them.
