This is sad. Where I live, all the mail carriers have a pocket full of dog treats. When the mail comes, it’s like the ice cream truck for the neighborhood’s dogs.

My dog (a Bull Mastiff) was staying with my brother, and her sweet natured mother.

The postman carries dog treats and mom-dog was always happy to see him, take a treat and a pat on the head. When the postman saw TWO dogs, he gave them both treats, gave Val a pat on the head, and pulled back his arm in terror from my dog. Treat or no, no arms allowed within the fence-line!

The problem with many pit bull owners is that, in response to the sometimes irrational fear and hatred of their preferred breed of dog; they often form their own irrational opinion of the likelihood and potential from harm from their dog; i.e. they dismiss the possibility.

I know that my breed of dog is more likely to be aggressive, and MUCH more dangerous when engaged in aggression; than most other breeds of dog. As such I take precautions that someone who has deluded themselves minimizing the danger would not.
