A Miami-Dade judge has decided to drop the felony charge facing a former cop who is on trial for killing his K-9 companion.
Allen Cockfield faced prison time if convicted of killing a police dog, which is a third degree felony. Cockfield, a 25-year veteran of the Miami-Dade police force, is accused of choking and then kicking Duke the K-9 repeatedly during an obedience training session in 2006.
The two had been partners for six months before the incident happened.
The judge ruled Cockfield didn't intend to kill Duke, despite his violent actions. The former cop still faces animal cruelty charges, which are a misdemeanor and come with possible jail time and a fine.
Testimony from a dog trainer who was present during the incident described the violent nature of Cockfield's actions by kicking the jury box several times loudly to demonstrate the intensity of the blows.
Duke died after repeatedly being kicked in the ribs, which likely caused his heart to skip a beat and resulted in the dog having a seizure.
On Wednesday, another former colleague of Cockfield told the jury he "hated" his four-legged partner.

You or I would never have gotten a felony dropped if we kicked a K-9 to death in front of a group of trainers.
What an a******
GUILTY!!!
This SOB should’ve been the one kicked in the ribs
RIP Duke
I hope his last name acurately describes the condition of hisposterior in jail.
“Involuntary animal slaughter” should be levied against him.
Same as with anyone who kills an animal with their car, right?
“On Wednesday, another former colleague of Cockfield told the jury he “hated” his four-legged partner.”
Hate crime.
HE DIDN’T INTEND TO KILL HIM?? WTF???
He should never be allowed in a room with another dog, unless he is handcuffed and the dogs are really hungry...
Most LEOs restrict their misconduct to killing innocent pet dogs. This one killed another LEO. Great guy. Too bad that dog didn’t get him first.
The more people I meet, the more I love my dog.
I read on another news site that he kicked it to death because it was barking and ignored his commands to stop.
Seems the blue shield isn’t holding up for him for killing his partner, other cops are testifying against him vehemently.
Police dogs are chosen based on cream and intelligence.... what did the dog have on his partner?
What do you expect? Obviously, the “FIX” was in. Maybe some animal lovers will “take care” of the situation.
But, as you can obviously see, he is special.
Put him in the general population. Maybe he’ll find out how it is to be kicked to death.
Just another rare, isolated example of the 99% giving the 1% a bad name.
Just imagine if a “perp” had pissed him off as much as that poor dog.
Headline: “Mongrel Kills PureBred German Shepherd”
Mongrels shouldn’t be placed in charge of dogs.
As far as I can tell, mongrels treat dogs like their own personal slaves.
The K-9 is the higher life form here.
This mongrel looks like a class- A mother ****** if you ask me.
Similar case with NC state trooper. Dog didn’t die in that case - but there was video of the incident. Trooper lost his job but then sued to get it back. Forget where the case is now.
“But, as you can obviously see, he is special.”
For all the talk about “white privilege” this dirtbag’s got 2 get out of jail free cards. There are increasingly different sets of laws in this country, one for them (cops, minorities, politicians, etc) and one for us. If you strike a police dog you go to jail, if they KILL a police dog they walk.
At least thsi guy will likely be drummed out of the police force. If he is capable of kicking his partner to death, what would he have done to a citizen?
In other news, the Mongrel in Chief is busy creating a plan to break the necks of any remaining purebreds in Amerika.
