Ousted Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod said Thursday she will sue a conservative blogger who posted an edited video of her making racially tinged remarks last week.
Sherrod made the announcement in San Diego at the National Association of Black Journalists annual convention.
The edited video posted by Andrew Breitbart led Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to ask her to resign, a decision he reconsidered after seeing the entire video of her March speech to a local NAACP group. In the full speech, Sherrod spoke of racial reconciliation and lessons she learned after initially hesitating to help a white farmer save his home.
Vilsack and President Barack Obama later called Sherrod to apologize for her hasty ouster. Vilsack has offered her a new job at the department, which she is still considering.
Obama said Thursday morning on ABC's daytime talk show "The View" that the incident shows racial tensions still exist in America.
"There are still inequalities out there. There's still discrimination out there," Obama said. "But we've made progress."
Obama pinned much of the blame for the incident on a media culture that he said seeks out conflict and doesn't always get the facts right. But he added, "A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration."

OH, PLEASE...please....DO THIS...Sherrod....YES...PLEASE do this.
The Feds are coming after the internet, and it won’t stop after Obama is gone.
On what grounds is she suing?
Defamation? They were her OWN words.
I bet Andrew is laughing so hard!
LOL walk right into the trap.
Shouldn’t she be suing Vilsack for wrongful termination?
The original blog was not about her at all, it was about the reaction to that portion of her speech by the racist NAACP crowd.
agreed...think of the pandora’s box of lawsuits we can now target left wing media with.....
It should be as open and shut as the Feds vs. Arizona... wait...
It’s still going to cost him a bundle to defend himself. I wonder if he’ll set up a defense fund?
The video was truncated, not edited. The full video was available at anytime from the NAACP.
The video did not lead Tom Vilsack to ask her to resign, President Obama's demand that she be dismissed did led Vilsack to tell her to resign.
Remember James Rosen of FNC pointing out the little reported fact that Breitbarts original video segments include one on the transformation.
Based on that he felt a suit would yield no result for Sherrod.
“BIG mistake, Shirley. Just huge.”

Maybe.
Give me the racial compoistion of the jury and I’ll give you the outcome.
Facts and evidence be damned...
Unfortunately for you and your DNC backers Shirley courts deal in facts, not manufactured propaganda accusations about “edited video”.
I imagine she wants to claim defamation. I’m not a lawyer but I say she has no case. First she has no damages, and second, she is a public figure, which makes is damn near impossible to claim libel.
Maybe she is suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress but I doubt she has a case for that either. I dont see it as Breitbart’s fault that people misinterpreted what he posted or failed to read his intro, which is part of the problem here.
Breitbart’s intent was to call attention to the audience’s stunning reaction when she indicated she did not give the white farmer all the help she could have. I dont see the intent on his part to hurt her.
She may not be as racist as she once was, but she and her husband are still active tools in the redistribution of wealth and power cause.
She didn't get that government appointment in the first place by just being a selfless public servant.
National Association of Black Journalists, congressional black caucus, black panthers, naacp.
No racism here.
I agree Breitbart should have posted the rest of the story.
But, imagine a Republican saying, “I participated in a cross-burning. But I no longer do that and have seen the errors of my ways.”
Wouldn’t THAT be newsworthy?
Nice - and Obama just defended her again.
Sherrod and Obama are extending this debate, and are going to make this about Sherrod - the more that comes out about her and her husband, the uglier it will get for her and Obama.
She’s like Rodney King - both had their brief chance at victimhood, but after further investigation, both clearly are low characters with views/actions that can not be defended.
Great, I hope he counter sues. I understand she just got a big settlement so she has LOTS of money.
