Four journalists have gone missing in the north Mexican state of Durango, a human rights body says.

The four had been covering protests at a prison in Gomez Palacio, Mexico's National Commission for Human Rights said.

Inmates there have been protesting at a report that accused the jail's director of releasing inmates to carry out drug-related killings.

At least nine journalists have been killed in Mexico so far this year.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights says several more have also been kidnapped.

'Picked up'

Three of the missing journalists were "picked up" at about midday on Monday and the fourth vanished later that night, the state-run National Commission for Human Rights said.

Were they American journalists? If so how much would we have to pay to get the baddies to keep them?

Am sure they have already met their worst nightmare-by-barbarity. All to pathetic. . .and wondering what will it take for Mexico or 'whomever' to get this under control. It is viral. . .and we know what that means.

(On another level...do watch the H&G channel and watch these folk who are relocating in Mexico - do not know when taped however; but do wonder; how are they doing down there? Are these things 'worse' as reported here or 'as bad' in what appears the thick of it. . .just wondering if anyone should have an answer.)

The crime and violence in Mexico is probably much worse than we read. The warlords down there don’t like too much publicity. If they don’t like what a journalist reports the journalist winds up in a barrell of acid. I remember a few years ago a reporter in Tijuana recieved bullets in the head while he was in his car with his two kids. The victim wrote something the gang did not like.

You should see what happened to a Columbia blogger/journalist a weeks in broad daylight on a city street with witnesses.

Beat to death, the pictures were disturbing.

“The victim wrote something the gang did not like.”

If we had honest reporters in the US we may not be in this situation which would then enable us to help solve this problem.

I have always believed that the war on drugs is a big cover-up to protect politicians and friends that are benefiting from this “war.” Profiteers exist in every war. The openborder is just one way to help their friends.
