You can't hit something floating with a half-dozen 1000 gpm plus streams of water form every direction without filling up something vital sooner or later.

Even well trained volunteer firemen know to cool things off and get the flame away from the fuel, and from pics I have seen, they were not effective at that with the boats pumping water onto the rig.

It is just a matter of adversely affecting stability, (light plant down, pumps not working) once it capsizes, its done.
