What's their plan?

Faced with a dismal political climate, Democrats appear ready to revive the hoary charge that Republicans seek to dismantle Social Security. But what's the Dems' answer?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has run TV ads attacking his opponent, Sharron Angle, for wanting "to wipe the program out." In Kentucky, Republican senatorial candidate Rand Paul is being criticized for remarks he made in favor of Social Security privatization -- in 1998. Several strategists are calling for Democratic candidates to tie their opponents to privatization efforts, including President George W. Bush's failed efforts to reform the troubled program.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made it clear that she'll oppose any change to Social Security benefits, including raising the retirement age. Democratic spokesmen have criticized a statement by House Minority Leader John Boehner leaving the door open for a retirement-age hike. A plan by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) to allow younger workers to invest a portion of their Social Security taxes privately under controlled circumstances -- one, sadly, the GOP leadership hasn't endorsed -- is also likely to serve as a point of Democratic attack.

The dems will use every lie they used the last time Bush tried to fix Social Security. They’ll say grandma is going to be thrown out on the street, etc, etc, etc.

And people will believe them.

If the pubbies are smart — a novel concept, I know — they’ll keep beating their drums about 500 billion in Medicare cuts done by the Dems...that’s verifiable fact and not somebody’s fantasy like taking away Granny’s Sosh Security.

What's their plan?

Easy, to pretend the 'Trust Fund' holds real assets and that everything is hunky-dory in a government-commanded economy.

The GOP not endorsing Paul Ryan’s ideas is one symptom of why their own fundraising is so lackluster.

It’s not enough to merely win seats. People want ideas, want fresh commitment, want answers and not election-cycle rhetoric. If the GOP doesn’t wake up to this, we’ll have more RATS seated in 2012 because the whole damn thing will be moot.

Ah, yes. Get out the senior citizen vote by scaring them about social security. It’s an oldie, but a goodie.

That is the best weapon the democrats have had for years. When all else fails the democrats bring out their old stand-bys, crying and wrining their hands while sitting in their wheelchairs because the Republicans will be taking away their social security bennies.
