Hernando gives CCA a deadline to settle jail dispute (includes Sherff Nugent Flip-flop info)

BROOKSVILLE - Corrections Corporation of America has until 5 p.m. today to reach an agreement with the county over its jail furnishings inventory dispute or face immediate legal action.

Earlier in the meeting the commission briefly discussed the discrepancy between last year's formal jail budget and the amount requested by Nugent to run the jail in the coming year. Last year's budget was made artificially lower by figuring in a projected savings from implementation of an ankle monitoring program that never materialized.

Commissioner Jeff Stabins suggested that the extra $280,000 needed to fund the jail, which was the expected savings from the program, should be paid out of the money set aside for the judicial center since the program was the judiciary's responsibility.

OK, first of all, the main focus of the story is the dispute between CCA and the county. That's important here in Hernando County.

However, the last two paragraphs I excerpted are important in evaluating the candidate for Congress here in Congressional District 5. The Sherff has once again proven that his statements in candidate debates and forums have a short expiration date.

Six days ago, July 21st, in Pasco County, the Sherff said to the Republican Club there, “We've already said to the county that we anticipate returning at least five hundered thousand dollars on the budget, the same budget that they had last year at CCA. And that's our pledge because we know we can do it better.”

I hope to get some video of the Sherff today at the Board of County Commissioners meeting. He asked for $280,000 more than CCA's budget last year.

In just 6 days, this man who claims to be a “fiscal conservative” has cost us Hernando county taxpayers an additional $780,000.

Please, folks, help me. Please Stand with Sager. This Sheriff Nugent will cost the US Taxpayers a fortune in spending and debt if he goes to Washington and does what he has done here in Hernando County. In 8 years, he's increased his budget at the Sheriff's department by over 65%, while the population has only increased about 25%.

If you want a Congressman who expands government and bloats the budget, Rich Nugent is your man. If you want someone committed to limited government as defined in the Constitution of the United States, Stand with Sager, please.

Sherff Nugent claim past expiration date ping.

You saw him say he was going to save $500,000 from the budget CCA had last year. Today he told the Board of County Commissioners in Hernando County he needed all of the CCA budget from last year PLUS $280,000 MORE.

The saddest thing is the Commissioners gave him the budget increase.
