It seems Abilgail Thernstrom is determined to trivialize, marginalize and minimize the Black Panther voter intimidation case for whatever reason. She also makes a comment about the world deserving to know what Julie Fernandes of the DOJ actually said.
Similarly, I think the world deserves to know what Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandes actually said about the Civil Rights Divisions enforcement priorities.
J. Christian Adams is not the only one who's related what Julie Fernandes said, others have come forward and made sworn affidavits. Perhaps Abigail Thernstrom should read those affidavits.

So if I stand in front of a polling place this Fall with a weapon I won’t be prosecuted?

DOJs decision to drop the case may have been wrong, I went on to say in my earlier piece. But so far we have only very weak evidence on the matter. There is certainly no direct or hard evidence of either an effective voter-suppression effort or Justice Department indifference to such cases. So, if KKK members in white sheets were standing outside of polling places with night sticks would the writer consider that weak evidence of voter intimidation?
NRO is becoming a joke.

I am sure she would put forth the same argument against further action being taken had it been two white men in Klan robes holding a hoe handle./s/

No, it’s not NRO. This is Abilgail Thernstrom, the vice chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights saying this.

I think many of us should stand in front of “diverse” voting places come November in long white robes. Surely, nothing would be made of it?

What I don’t understand is why they decided to practice their ‘voter intimidation’ where they did? It was an all black section of Philadelphia. Did they really think they were going to be robbing McCain and Palin of votes in that kind of neighborhood?

I loved Thernstrom and her arguments against the left when Mary Frances Berry was the chairperson of this stupid, irrelevant commission. Her take on this, except for the last two paragraphs, surprises me. She redeems herself at the end, but her dismissal of Andrew McCarthy is weird.

The “justice” department has failed to carry out the law. This is deliberate and with full knowledge of the law.
Law is being enforced selectively, according to whether a person is a member of a victim group. There is no higher law enforcement authority who can prosecute the “justice” department, so now what?

Yeah, it's not like there was a videotape of the incident... Oh wait, there
was.
Well, who are you gonna believe, Abigail or your lyin' eyes?
