Elton John's choice words for boycotting musicians (rips musicians for boycotting Arizona !)

Elton John didn't mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:

"We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here. They are (expletive)wits! Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what's the (expletive) with these people?"

John has never been one to cave into political pressure from his musical colleagues. He ignored an artist boycott of Israel in June over the flotilla fiasco and played a show in Tel Aviv. He also played Rush Limbaugh's latest wedding reception in early June, which drew the ire of gays and lesbians. Limbaugh is vehemently anti-gay marriage; John is married to his longtime partner David Furnish

Actually I agree with him. I’ve never understood this marriage thing. Obviously they have never heard of divorce.

John was married to Kiki Dee way back when and went through a divorce.

HELLO, a civil thing is a contract for monetary protection. Smart way to go.

Entertainers who do these boycotts may regret it in the end. They may find themselves unwelcome in many places, not just Arizona, for a very long time.

They are “Dixie Chicking” themselves - forever.

Personally, I “turn the channel” when I see some of these jerks. It is hard to appreciate an entertainer when you know they are part of what is wrong with America. Their politics ruins their art.

Elton John has surprised me these past 2 months by making decisions that I wholeheartedly agree with.

First, he agrees to perform at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding ( ignoring potential criticisms from liberals, gay activists and maybe even attacks from the right ).

Then, ignoring the worldwide boycott of musicians performing in Israel after the flotilla incident, he goes to Tel Aviv for his scheduled concert.

Now this -— he ignores left wing demands to boycott Arizona by saying to hell with you, I’m going to perform as scheduled.

What’s not to like ?

Say what you will about him, he’s his own man ( is this the right term for him ?)... :)

I wondered about that line also, since I recall reading statements from Elton John that he did not support gay marriage -- for logical reasons.

The guy lives his life as he chooses and, Elton John doesn't need to stand on anyone's back to reach the top. A rare thing when a celebrity chooses to thumb his nose at the Hollywood establishment.

Next thing you know, he’ll be singing the National Anthem at the Republican Convention. ;-)

“Elton John is gay? “

Get outta here. I thought the Duck suit was just a marketing gimmick and Elton was working for Andres to hawk Andres Cold Duck.

I have never really heard Rush talk about this issue so I don’t know where the “vehemently” comes from.

He did back in 2004 when Gavin Newsome started issuing phony marriage certificates in San Francisco.

Rush made the point at the time that homosexuals have the same right to choose or choose not to engage in the institution of marriage as anyone else. He said marriage is what is -- a union between a man and a woman.

Since then, Rush has been strangely silent on the issue.

In fact, he apparently has bought into the lie homosexuality is genetically caused.
