British Petroleum and US oil giant Amoco have announced plans for a $110bn (£67bn) merger that will create Britain's biggest company.

As an old Amoco Chicago employee, I often wonder if that Chicago connection led to Rahm Emmanuel getting free housing from a BP (Amoco) executive and all the other wink wink nod nod that apparently went on.

If any merger takes place in the future, trust me, the “BP” part of the name will disappear.
It is toxic and will be scrubbed.

They broke up Standard Oil into five companies
- Standard of Ohio (SOHIO)
- Standard of Indiana (AMOCO)
- Standard of NY (Mobil)
- Standard of NJ (Exxon)
- Standard of California (Chevron)
BP bought SOHIO and then AMOCO. Exxon and Mobil merged. Not much has changed.

The date on the article is August 11, 1998.
BP and Amoco have been one-and-the-same for almost 12 years.

Why would you publish an ancient article that really has nothing to do with what’s currently going on in the world?
