I was wondering the same thing just the other day. There was a time in this country when this sort of thing brought a charge of inciting to riot, causing mayhem, threats on peoples lives, etc., etc.
I don’t care what color you are, if you threaten to kill someone there should be repercussions.

Sometimes I think these sorts of shenanigans should be publicly replicated and documented as test cases and to demonstrate the double standard.

I agree with both of you. I think that these “hate crimes” laws ought to be overturned due to the lack of “equal protection” under said laws.
