Something like that. Assange was an infohacker back in the early 1990's who got caught (an infohacker is a hacker who is interested in information, as compared to the more common profit motivated hackers). He wasn't very good at it, and was small-potatoes enough that he was simply fined after pleading guilty.

As for living in Kenya, the truth is that the guy has lived in a lot of places. He is paranoid to the point of delusion, and constantly moves from country to country because he's convinced that secret agents are trying to kill him.

Then again, since he's made a career out of embarrassing governments worldwide, he might just be onto something with that last idea.

Na, it's easy to embarrass lawful, civilized governments that you know will not/can not hurt you.
