WASHINGTON (AFP) The White House denounced a massive leak of secret military files that allegedly describe how Pakistan's spy service aids the Afghan insurgency, but said the information was no surprise.
In all, some 92,000 documents were released by the web whistleblower Wikileaks, containing previously untold details of the Afghan war through Pentagon files and field reports spanning from 2004 to 2010.
According to the New York Times, one of the first three media outlets to review and report on the leaks, they "suggest that Pakistan, an ostensible ally of the United States, allows representatives of its spy service to meet directly with the Taliban."
Britain's Guardian newspaper said the files, many of which detail growing numbers of civilians dying at the hands of international forces as well as the Taliban, painted "a devastating portrait of the failing war in Afghanistan."
The White House issued its condemnation shortly before the leaks were posted online, saying the information could endanger US lives but also pointing to the administration's long-held doubts about links between Pakistan intelligence agents and Afghan insurgents.
"The United States strongly condemns the disclosure of classified information by individuals and organizations which could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk, and threaten our national security," said White House National Security Advisor James Jones.

IMHO, it’s much more likely a unilateral ploy to avoid accountability, while providing justification for actions supporting ulterior motives.
That makes sense but could you elaborate a bit..?
If the White House were serious about the war, the last thing one would do is to use the press to identify am information leak. Obviously the only leak is to intentionally release the information and now that it has been leaked to further draw attention to the information.
The entire McChrystal affair was contrived. McChrystal’s bio manifests a short tracked career with multiple command billets at less than 2yr billet assignments throughout his career. He had been fast tracked and groomed ever since West Point and his performance at West Point indicates he wasn’t chosen to be groomed based upon superior performance or capacity. He was capable and had made 4 stars and knew the operations of the theater and was obedience to civilian control, evidenced in his behavior and planning.
The mechanics of his departure were associated with painting Hillary in a favorable light, while giving an impression of Obama as a person capable of standing his ground, intentionally or not.
IMHO, his departure is probably more associated with an operational milestone in maneuver warfare at the political, economic, and cultural levels. It didn’t have anything to do with past military planning or operations at the tactical or operational levels. It’s been orchestrated and planned for other reasons.
I would tend to agree with this conclusion as it's not hard to imagine Holbrooke and his crew obstructing at every level.
The “White House” shouldn’t be “denouncing” it. They should be throwing these a**holes in prison for treason.
I'm wondering how that SPC managed to pass those files to WikiLeaks.
If they were on the classified net, his usb drives should be disabled. If he downloaded them on to a CD or DVD, the program used to download the information will only allow the information to be viewed on a computer with a similar or higher security rating.
All in all, it sounds like the ComSec system at that location needs to be looked at.
SECRET papers were “leaked” under Obama’s watch. The media uses “what is leaked” for fueling ratings ... but YOU and I are concerned about the LEAK. Who would do this? Who would put the lives of our troops in danger for self-aggrandizement? The focus should be on the leak, not what is “leaking”.
The White House denounced a massive leak of secret military files.
Funny ain't it.
The commieRATS had no problem with 'leaks of secret military files' when Dubya was POTUS. Now that 'the foot is on the other shoe', they don't like it.
That's ... Schadenfreude ... for ya baby!
Military boots in Afganistan; games up.
The White House most likely collated and filtered the “leak” and probably provided a media kit to go along with it.
The “leaks” go right up to when 0bama declared a new approach. They clearly indicate that problems are Bush’s fault.
I bet a new report shows a massive improvement since then!
I also think that this is a prelude to war crimes trials for everyone but 0bama and his regime, just in time for the November elections, what a distraction! Remember, 0bama’s people flirted with the concept during the election.
It's already here, brought to us by Broke Insane Yomama! ! ! !
WORD, dude!!! WORD!!!
