But in one of its most surprising moves so far, it has done the opposite, proposing what would be the most radical reorganization of the National Health Service, as the system is called, since its inception in 1948.
The plan would also shrink the bureaucratic apparatus, in keeping with the governments goal to effect $30 billion in efficiency savings in the health budget by 2014 and to reduce administrative costs by 45 percent. Tens of thousands of jobs would be lost because layers of bureaucracy would be abolished.
In a document, or white paper, outlining the plan, the government admitted that the changes would cause significant disruption and loss of jobs. But it said: The current architecture of the health system has developed piecemeal, involves duplication and is unwieldy. Liberating the N.H.S., and putting power in the hands of patients and clinicians, means we will be able to effect a radical simplification, and remove layers of management.

Wow.
I’m shocked and pleased.
The Republicans should use this info in ALL their political ads.
Liberals want to mirror Europes Energy Policies, after they have already failed.
Liberals want to mirro Eurpoes Economic policies, after they have alrady failed.
Liberals want to mirror Great Britains Healthcare policies, after they have aldready failed.

“guess socialized medicine is working so well for Britain that Obama wanted to give the U.S. healthcare system a chance...to fail.”
The irony is that the first president NOT to believe in American exceptionalism ultimately will end up being forced to believe it: he’s doing his best to ensure we’re the last industrialized nation left to have a European-style welfare state even as our competitors are doing their best to dismantle theirs.
Handwriting on the wall for Obama. A great message that should be headlined across this country. Wonder how many doctors will leave here to practice over there?
Time to pressure your congressman and senator to repeal. I read yesterday a lot were backpedaling.
Liberals, always willing to prove the definition of insanity, will dismiss this saying “WE can do it right!”
Socialists and fascists (aka the Obama Administration) will look down at Britain as weak and will work to further erode U.S./U.K. relations.
The American people will suffer greatly unless a Republican majority willing to defund or repeal Obamacare is elected in November.
Let me guess. Even the well to do and well-connected aren’t able to get the health care they want, so now they realize they have to change it.
Hmm ...
We need to take back the House as well as the Senate this year. Need to build on our numbers in both chambers as well as take back the Presidency in 2012 to repeal everything Obama did to us.
Becoming the laughingstock of the world may have awakened something in them at last.
We should never just learn from others’ mistakes - we should repeat them on larger scale!
There you have it. The Elite has spoken. "I'm a SENIOR lecturer in POLITICS at the UNIVERSITY." I know better than you - and I have been to a doctor. Lots of experience. And I have an asexual name, so I must be better than you.
My profound apologies to all readers named Robin, but I couldn't resist that one.
European Socialists bickering amongst themselves..
America, your future..
Countries based on “exceptionalism” do not elect muslim marxists to run it. Americans are drooling idiots who watch TV and are controlled by it. Sad but true. He will destroy it and the idiot serfs will allow it because they love NCCA ball games and other inane and meaningless nonsense.
Unfortunately this will not hamper the Dims. And the Repubs should push it.
