TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - A former naval chief in Iran's Revolutionary Guard says his country has set aside 100 military vessels to confront each U.S. warship that poses a threat.
Gen. Morteza Saffari is quoted by the conservative weekly Panjereh Saturday as saying that troops aboard U.S. warships are "morsels" for Iran to target in the event of any American threat against Iran.

Odd.. I thought he had extensive plastic surgery and changed his name to Robert Gibbs
Iran’s best weapon is the one in the Whitehouse. Doofus in charge.
Must be counting speed boats and dinghies.......
Would you give a swarm type attack a chance in the restricted waters of the Gulf? There was this article about “rule breaking warfare” and this computer geek kept on winning a naval simulation because he would build a fleet of “dingies” and just overwhelm the more traditional fleets with numbers. What would happen in Iran sent out say 1,000 speed boats packed with explosives on a kamikaze mission against a US task force in the Gulf? It might just take 1% to get through and a US carrier is at the bottom of the gulf.
Yes, but one should still use them, right? Do you think our withdrawal from Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia was precipitated by the lack of weapons?
Tactically, it is not a trivial problem to confront 300 speed boats loaded with explosive and attacking our carrier close to their shore. I am afraid that we may lose a carrier under such circumstances quite soon, and the consequences will be enourmous.
We would see these forces gathering before they ever put out from the pier. Aircraft would be taking some out before they were ever in range of the Phalanx or that other cool looking gun.
In theory. You can recall, I am sure, the loss of sleeping 240 Marines -- I am sure we should've seen it coming. You may recall successful bombing of our ships a decade ago. There is a huge difference between "we should" and "we will."
It's completed development and has been deployed throughout the Navy fleet. It's known as the RIM-116 and it's designed to destroy hyper-sonic anti-ship missiles along with incoming aircraft. All the carriers have them.
I think that your "1%" or more would probably wreck each other in the effort to find a carrier strike group to attack. These carriers don't just go around broadcasting their location for all to know. And if Iran did gather 1000 boats in one location they'd be detected by satellite/Global Hawk/Predator UAV in plenty of time to be destroyed in port.
I was thinking the 69 cent plastic ones you can buy at any cheap kids store.
What an ignorant comment. With air supremacy, not to mention weapons supremacy, their little speedboats will be cut to pieces. They’ve played that game before and lost.
Any aggressive act on their part, and I’d make clear that the lose their provinces at the northern end of the Gulf.
Rowboats aren’t much good against Aircraft Carriers!

the navy is well aware of this serious threat. this type of attack is not as easily handled as you think
