Virginia Sen. Jim Webb called for ending government-run diversity programs in a newspaper column Friday, saying they have disadvantaged struggling whites and hurt the cause of racial harmony.
Webb wrote an op-ed column in Friday’s Wall Street Journal that said a “plethora of government-enforced diversity policies have marginalized many white workers. The time has come to cease the false arguments and allow every American the benefit of a fair chance at the future.”
Webb’s press secretary, Jessica Smith, said Friday that the senator felt the column speaks for itself and that he would not comment further.
As an author, Webb expressed misgivings about how affirmative action programs have grown beyond their initial intent in two of his books, “Born Fighting” and “A Time to Fight.”

I’m guessing he’s baiting a trap for any republican dumb enough to walk into it. Bill Clinton has already laid out a strategy by claiming a democrat can be racist if an election is on the line.
This is like a republican suddenly deciding to come out in support of nationwide gun confiscations right before the election.

Amazing - I hate to say it but Senator Webb has written an article no Republican would dare write. Senator Webb has added “insulation” against charges of racism as he is a Democrat. However this is gutsy as I assume like most Democrats a huge percentage of his votes come from blacks.

Its amazing how many forget what an utter nutjob Jim Webb really is. He writes books with graphic depictions of sex with young boys and throws his friends under the bus with a speed that would make Obama’s head spin.
Then he indeed deserves credit for writing the truth, even when it may put some of his support at jeopardy.
EVEN a liberal community college President I worked with back in the early 90’s saw how stupid THAT was...and advocated “preferential treatment” based on income, NOT race.....at least he was honest....

To be a democrat in Congress means being either insane, unethical, dumb, ego-ridden jerks married to rich women, or legacy dopes riding on the coattails of their equally challenged fathers.
If this nation continues with severe economic issues,eventually many publicly financed diversity programs,multicultural seminars and gay/lesbian programs will collapse under their own financial weight.
I suspect what would happen is that Webb will introduce a bill, republicans will jump on board and Webb will ditch the effort and immediately call republican supporters a bunch of racists.
This man is only very marginally more under control than Alan Grayson.
I don’t think so. Whatever else he may be, Webb is a Marine. There is NO affirmative action in the military. Without a doubt it is the most integrated institutions in the country. No reason those principles shouldn’t work in the wider world.

I wonder. The Navy some time ago wanted their officers to look more like the sailors. There may be gender quotas also at the academies and leadership.
