U.S. Sen. John McCain has spent an unprecedented $16 million to date fending off a challenge from former U.S. Congressman J.D. Hayworth.
Hayworth, so far, has spent $1.5 million, according to campaign finance reports filed July 15.
Hayworths spokesman, Mark Sanders, said the expenditure proves Hayworth is such a strong candidate that McCain pulled out all the stops with phone banking, mailers, radio and TV. I think that the senator was really fearful of losing this race and he decided to just dump as much as he could into it to buy it, he said.
While candidates are allowed to transfer money from accounts used for other federal races, Sanders criticized McCains use of funds left over from McCains 2008 presidential bid. McCain transferred $4.6 million this quarter, and altogether about $9 million.
McCain reports having about $1.7 million on hand after the quarter that ended in June. Hayworth, who launched a statewide ad Friday attacking McCain for his work on comprehensive immigration reform, has nearly $1 million.

(McCain spending money that he refused to spend fighting Obama)
Oh joy
Thanks John
for the worst President in American history !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Juan is a Soros puppet, but you already knew that. My bad!
I kind of get the feeling that his Presidential run was only to insure another successful election to the Senate.
This POS McCain is spending money I wasted on him back in 2008. He was a Soros set up all the way. America was played. Go to h*ll McCain.
"Stupid conservatives. They thought they were giving money to Palin in 2008, but in reality they were giving money to meeeee!"
"But hey, conservatives are going to destroy the f*cking Republican Party...why would I want to be the leader of a party of such a**holes?"
"After all, the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy."
"Oh, and I have to tell you, Obama is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."
"Obama 2012!!!"
I don’t think McCain planned to win again Obama. I think Obama was “the one” selected by those who put up the US candidates and that sure is not decided by the American people. I don’t think our canidates could be so vapid and traitorous without a conserted effort by the American and world’s elite.
They hated Reagan and did all they could to stop his progress in politics. If we have candidates the media is not rabid about, those are probably the good ones. They hated Palin and it’s too bad she is joined at the hip with McCain and other serious Rinos.
>> I kind of get the feeling that his Presidential run was only to insure another successful election to the Senate.
McCain did not take the POTUS run seriously as he retained the security of his Senate seat. He had nothing lose.
I was at that particular McCain rally when he uttered those words. My voice was hoarse booing the guy. The majority of the crowd booed him too. It was then that I knew we were all sold down the river. What a POS. C'mon Arizona, flush this traitor.
Hmm, by "navigating" does he mean "lying"?
Mister McCain's incumbency helps him with name recognition and money (and logistics and other organizational connections).
Everyone knows this.
.
lol senile McPain needs to retire..
Johnny McRINO knew he would get his old job back at the Senate when he lost to Obama, that’s why he didn’t pull out the stops then like his future depends on it now.
The second time tonight Op has posted this “earth shaking” news. An incumbent senator has a financial advantage over a clueless challenger. Stop the presses.
>>> McCain spending money that he refused to spend fighting Obama
The records show Obama spent $740.6 million on his campaign, to McCain’s $227.7 million. Yes, this amount McCain had left would have made ALL the difference after the Wall Street meltdown. Why didn’t I see that before.
There ought to be mandatory retirement in congress...of course they’ll never vote for that.
McCain’s only continuing value is having brought Sarah Palin onto the national scene. He now just needs to go retire.
Exactly. He just didn’t care. Heads he wins the big job tails he’s still King Chit in AZ.
She was on her way anyway. I knew about her at least a year before he picked her for the VP spot.
