Police investigating the disappearance of Oregon second-grader Kyron Hormanwant to talk to a friend of Kyron's stepmother about the case, but she is apparently refusing to cooperate.

New information suggests Terri's friend DeDe Spicher is involved in the case.A statement released overnight by the little boy's father and biological mother focuses on DeDe Spicher, a close friend of Horman's estranged wife, Terri Horman, who is under intense scrutiny by police and the community.

Spicher was identified by law enforcement as a confidante of Terri Horman and, according to her estranged husband and Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, she's not cooperating with investigators.

"She has not only been in close communication with Terri but has been providing Terri with support and advice that is not in the best interests of our son," read the family statement, accompanied by a picture of Spicher. "Additional information provided shows that she is refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, she is also going as far as to suggest to others that may have information regarding Kyron's disappearance, not to cooperate as well."

The Oregonian reported that Spicher, 43, was spotted by a witness leaving her job for about 90 minutes on June 4, the day Kyron disappeared from his elementary school. She was gone, the paper reported, around the same time the boy is believed to have vanished and that a second witness reported not being able to reach Spicher on her cell phone during that time.

There is something very, very wierd about this case. I have seen all these people and they just don’t seem right somehow. None of them. Not the natural parents or the stepmother or anyone connected to this.
None of them seem to feel ANY urgency about finding this little boy. The police seem almost uninterested. I can’t put my finger on exactly what is going on, but none of it feels right.

I agree this is a very weird case. I just have this nagging feeling this is not going to turn out good.

I think the police are interested, but there is very little the police can actually do when there is no physical evidence and key potential witnesses are not only not cooperating but there is no evidence to use against them to get them to cooperate.

The police have spent more than 500K investigating this case.

The main issue is the boy's absolutely vile home situation.

His own mother abandoned him and did not reappear until he went missing. His father and stepmother had a volatile relationship with the father often living outside the home and the son staying with relatives not his father.

No one in this kid's life before he disappeared seems to have loved him or cared enough about him to give him a stable homelife for 12 months straight.

Every one of the adults in this story comes across as a self-absorbed, venal, uncaring rotter.

That is the feeling I got from seeing this all play out and I am all the way in Pennsylvania. I can’t even begin to comprehend how anyone can NOT love a child.
I looked at the images of this little boy and it broke my heart. There is such a coldness at work here. You can feel it even through the TV...as if the parents don’t care if this child is ever found or not.
I don’t get the feeling that he is dead though. Might be something more at work here if the stepmother wanted cash.
G-d willing, the police will find him wherever he is.

I pray you are wrong. Children deserve every ounce of love and protection they can get and we can give. It drives me crazy to see or hear some of the things that children go through.

I hope so too, the only thing is that I was watching some show a few nights and they mentioned that cops are going to be searching some national park or something to that effect where the family used to take pic-nics quite often. If you are doing that, you aren’t looking for a living child. The commentator then said that it was on the assumption that if you want to dump a body, you do it in a place you feel comfortable in. Remember, they found poor Caylee Anthony in the area where her mother used to hang out drinking beer.

His own mother abandoned him and did not reappear until he went missing.

That is absolutely not true. His mother had a life threatening kidney diesease, and had to move to Canada to live with her parents. The little boy, at the time just a baby, stayed with his father because his mother wasn't healthy enough to care for him. After she recovered, she moved back to the state where he live and was very involved in his life. In fact, he was supposed to be spending the next ten days with his mother and step father. He was scheduled to leave for her home after school the day he disappeared. She has repeated spoken about how his room is the way he left it at her house, with his laundry not put away yet.

the son staying with relatives not his father.

This isn't true. I think you are confusing him with his stepbrother, who was sent away to live with his grandparents.

I agree with you that his home life was seriously lacking, and that it appears that often, the adults in his life put themselves above the children.

This whole case happened less than 20 minutes from where I live, so if you do have any questions about it, we tend to know more and have more of the soap opera details, like the murder for hire plot, the divorce and restraining order etc.

So do I. Unfortunately I have like a 6th sense about things that I really hate. If I read someone is really sick I will get a flash of “they will be ok” or “this is not going to turn out good” same with crimes. :(

That's her story.

While I'm sure she was legitimately ill, I find it hard to believe that she was unable to have her own child live with her and her parents.

That whole thing was simply not natural.

Hi there, mockingbyrd . . . thanks for speaking up! Last night I had firmly decided to not read any further about this case until Kyron is located -- but then the info about Dede Spicher came out, and I was hooked again, scanning various news sites and crime chatboards.

What a total enigma!!

This appears to be a revealing comment from a relative of the stepmother's friend.

Sounds like the events leading to the boy's disappearance may be clarified as soon as the lawyers for the friend can work out an immunity deal.

Here’s the FR thread on it.....http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2547068/posts

Stepmom tried to hire the guy who was doing their landscaping (hubby says he didn’t know they had a landscaper) to kill her husband, the little boy’s dad. There are also reports that she solicited a second man to kill her husband.

LE won’t confirm these rumors, but they briefed the dad and he filed for divorce, got full temp custody of the 18 months old baby and the stepmom has been kicked out of the home. Since the judge awarded full temp custody to the dad, and okayed the Restraining Order, which is pretty severe, people are taking that as an indication that these rumors are true.

Well, since it involved taking the year old child out of the country, there might have been bigger hurdles than a typical custody case.

We don’t know the details, but it is true that she was very ill. Maybe she put her desired second to the wellbeing of her son. I don’t know how old her parents are, or if they were capable of caring for their ill adult daughter and their very young grandson.

She left him with his father. There’s nothing unnatural about that.
