New York Rep. Charlie Rangel is 80 years old and facing ethics charges that could derail his career of nearly four decades in Congress, but he's still in fighting trim. Just ask NBC correspondent Luke Russert.

The two got into a dust-up Thursday in the Capitol after Russert asked Rangel whether he was afraid of losing his job. "What are you talking about?" Rangel snapped back as other reporters looked on. "You just trying to make copy? How do you think I got my job? I was elected. How do you think I lose it?"

Yah, NBC is all over the story AFTER charges have been filed. Before, when it mattered, silence.

“I was elected. How do you think I lose it?”

The man knows his constituents. He could be indicted, convicted and jailed, and he’d still get elected.

So true...this morning when I was watching local NYC t.v. they interviewed an elderly black woman who was part of his constituency. She said, “everybody does that. They are just looking for stuff to pin on him.” So if everyone was a child molester it would be a good thing if Charlie Rangel was a child molester?

Rush is “apologizing” to Russert because Rush is praising his work on this. Apologizing because praise from Rush might get him in trouble with his bosses.

“Russert, son of the late NBC political journalist Tim Russert, pressed on, saying Rangel could be defeated at the ballot or removed by his colleagues over charges that he failed to report financial holdings on his public disclosure form and that he used congressional letterhead to raise money for a private center named for him.”
Viewing Charlies answer,he loses his job at the ballot box,he does not believe theres any way at all he is expelled. Nancy must have given him a thumbs up.

Rangel’s right about one thing. His constituents are not likely to turn him out of office for his violations, ethical or otherwise.

Adam Clayton Powell Jr. held the Harlem congrssional seat from 1945 to 1971. Along the way he was criticised for his ethics, spending public funds on himself & family, slander suit he lost, misapproprtiation of Congressional funds, etc. Congress finally acted against the powerful ethnic icon and denied him his seat. His contstituents re-elected him and he was seated after a court action.

Ironically, soon afterward his constituents were persuaded to turn him out of office for a reform candidate—Charles Rangel who has held the seat ever since 1972.

Congressional action against him is likely to be seen as white men against a black man by his constituents.

Too true, too true. And this shall be the downfall of America. The people get the government they deserve. For Harlem, that means a pig like Rangel.

Luke did a great job. I hope he can find a job after Olbermann returns from the hospital after recovering from his head implosion and demands Luke be fired.

Another gem handed to the semi-loyal opposition for use in the election and serves to swell our numbers and not theirs.
IF, the apathetic republicans EVER get an act together. They are presently plan-less, strategy-less, and message-less, hoping the vacume will be enough to re-elect. Bah, humbug.

Rangell replaced Powell after Powell got the heave ho for corruption. Maybe it is a requirement for that seat.

Rangel is 80.

By the time he’s found guilty of anything beyond “bad ethics” or sentenced or fined for any wrong doing - if that ever happens - he’ll be dead and buried.

Should’ve nailed this crook a long time ago.
