J.D. Hayworth's criticism of John McCain over a TV ad featuring Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu seems to have backfired.
Since calling on McCain to pull the ad because Babeu called in to a white-supremacist radio show -- apparently without knowing it was a show for racists -- Hayworth's now taking his lumps from Arizona lawmen defending the sheriff.
This afternoon, the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police put out a press release calling on Hayworth to retract his comments about Babeu and demanding an apology.
"We're about to enforce SB1070, and the White House doesn't trust Arizona Peace Officers to enforce the law without racially profiling," says Sergeant John Ortolano, president of the AFOP. "It is unfortunate that J.D. Hayworth has agreed and now wrongly attacked Sheriff Paul Babeu."
"David Duke, Paul Babeu, John McCain -- certainly the senior senator from Arizona does not want to be at that party."
The AFOP says the comments crossed a line.
"The former congressman should know better than to attack law enforcement for political gain, and he needs to retract his statements and apologize to the Sheriff," Ortolano continues.
We contacted Hayworth's campaign to see if he had any plans to apologize. Nobody's gotten back to us yet.

Arizona, the state that elected “Big Sis” twice.
Sarah Palin came to Arizona early and gave McCain the advantage (thanks a lot Sarah). Now JD has to contend with this ad:
Watch it - you’ll realize that something evil is going on.
McCain TV Ad: “Sheriffs”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJkI0idBAWw
In my opinion, so do the sheriffs.
Endorsing a pro-amnesty, liberal wonk like McCain has destroyed their credibility, just as it did one former governor.
Thanks for the link. If McCain is involved, you can bet something evil is afoot. I’ll try to watch the ad later. Right now, for the sake of my blood pressure, I’m listening to Doc Watson play Deep River Blues. Next, Windy and Warm. ;)
Says who and what does that mean 'show for racist'. Tea Partiers are racist. Anybody that disagrees with Obama is a racist and in fact just being white makes one a racist.
I sure wouldn't take the word of the MSM or a politician on it.
That’s a fine ad for those who live outside of Arizona. The thing is, for people who live here there is one sheriff that is noticably missing.......Sheriff Joe who is one of the most popular elected officials in the state and who endorses JD.
I support JD not because I think he's great, but because he is the lesser of two evils.
Sarah undercut JD before he could even get started - just as planned.
If JD wins, I’m certain I’ll want him challenged in 2016. If McCain wins, I’m voting democrat and hoping we oust the rat in 2016.
That is about as good as it gets anymore. I don’t think any of the politicians understand ANYTHING but raising money and giving my money to their friends.
“Im listening to Doc Watson play Deep River Blues.”
Love Doc Watson. Ain’t he great?

Doc Watson - “The Last Thing On My Mind”
Not too bad for an old blind guy!
I was thinking about the Sheriff.
I was thinking what a little judgement and independence will do for you. The man is not only a good Sheriff; he is a good businessman and with the way he has handled the stray dog situation; he has given the prisoners positive reinforcement too.
What a guy.
OMC - I don’t believe you linked that video! Honest to goodness, as soon as I finished listening to Windy and Warm, I listened to The Last Thing on My Mind - Twice. This is a little bit more than GMTA, isn’t it? ;)
I invite you to keep your mouth of Sheriff Babeu. He fights a battle against illegal immigrants and drug cartels every day. He does such a good job that the cartels have put a price on his head. Sheriff Barbeu’s back yard is Pinal County, an area where his deputies are out-gunned, outnumbered by hundreds of percentage points. Pinal County is one of the areas where there are apparently Mexican drug cartel sniper/obeservation posts. One of Sheriff Barbeu’s deputies, Louie Puroll was shot this year while pursuing drug thugs—he thought he was going to die. Asked the officer he was communicating with to tell his wife he loves her. This is the man who defends Pinal County—between the Mexican border and Phoenix—and therefore us. Paul Barbeu is one of the most respected and love law enforcement officers in Arizona—right up there with our Sheriff Joe. And you are not.
Jim,
I am a big JD supporter also, I sent both FR and JD donations because I believe in both of them so strongly. We need help here in this great border state. Thank you, for standing with JD even if he has made some mistakes. Compared to McCain.......
Abstract questions: So who are the “deciders” that this Political Cesspool Radio Program is allegedly White Supremacist? What specifically defines a White Supremacist?
My guess is they are the same individuals who have already decided that the numerous other ethno-centric, nationalistic, “my tribe or race is more important than yours” organizations such as the La Raza, Muslim, Jewish, Blacks, Asians are just fine upstanding liberal minority organizations.
Your boy is backing McCain. I have no respect for that or anyone who backs anyone supporting McCain. He still pitching “It’s not amnesty” in his debate with JD, and if he is reelected we will surely see amnesty.
Babeu endorsing McCain and campaigning for McCain shows that he is being paid off in some way. No sheriff with morals would endorse McCain. Arizona is in big trouble.
Great minds do think alike!!!!!! LOL!
Hmmm, let me get this straight. White Supremacist bad, La Raza, Black Panthers, Jeremiah Wright and the NAACP good.
There is truly so much BS around we should all be wearing hip boots.
