Body scanners landing soon at Bush Intercontinental (Houston Texas)

Peer-through-the-clothing body scanners will be deployed to Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport in August, part of enhanced passenger screening to detect hidden weapons and liquid explosives, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday.

The first two pieces of radiation imaging equipment at the nation’s eighth-busiest airport should be in operation in August, and another 16 will be up and running by December, said Marlene McClinton, spokeswoman for the Houston Airport System.

The Transportation Security Administration announced in May that Hobby Airport would become the first airport in Houston to receive the multimillion-dollar devices. But none has so far arrived, McClinton said.

...San Antonio International Airport also will receive the advanced imaging technology...

...TSA officers viewing the images are located at remote locations and do not see or come in contact with the screened passenger.

A privacy filter blurs the faces of screened passengers, says the TSA, and the images are immediately and permanently deleted.

...Passing through the equipment is optional. Passengers who opt out of the scan must submit to a physical pat down by a TSA officer, which slows their trek through security. Most passengers accept the screening rather than wait...

I am not walking through these. I dread the day they become mandatory (no pat-down option). Tera-hertz scanners are sufficiently questionable health-wise and I do not trust either the manufacturer(s) or fedgov to look into long-term effects even when such data is compilable.

Queen Sheila Jackson Lee issued a statement on this new piece of airport security hardware. The article neglects to discuss whether or not Ms. Lee subjected herself to this invasive screening method.

At least one sexual sadist has been uncovered working for TSA (he was harassing a minor online and encouraging her to let him engage in S&M with her).

I’ve been through one of these beasts at Logan airport in Boston. They were putting everybody through - it was mandatory and it took forever. I had to remove my belt and watch (which I never have to do with the traditional scanners) and stand with my hands over my head holding my watch up. TSA was extremely defensive and yelling at everyone that it was only taking so long because nobody was falling directions. This was BS and obvious to everyone. Not only was it damned inconvenient but it was dehumanizing. This, I fear, is our future.

Of course, adherence of the Religion of Peace, through pressure politics by CAIR, will be exempt from these devices. Profiling and all, you know... mustn’t have that.

The article online ends by pointing out this procedure has been stepped up in light of the 2009 Christmas bomb plot. Which originated in EUROPE and could still reoccur on foreign originating flights.

My question the first time I have to go through one:

Would this detect a weapon I’ve stuffed up my a$$?

(this is why I don’t get to fly much...)

Don’t be fooled. The reason why these things are being rushed into service is to catch people who try to take contraband into or out of the country. Terrorism is not the main reason. I just wish they would be honest.

//radiation imaging equipment//

In the past I have been a highly trained primary radiographer working with Iridium 192 sources which are pretty intense. So I know all about the effects of ionizing radiation which is what this stuff is. And I tell you there is no way they should be able to force this stuff on people in order to take public transportation, its just wrong.

It seems like the govt is making the people its enemy, well it was the people who stopped flight 93 on 9-11.

They’ve already done studies as to the capacity of plastic explosives that could be buried in body cavities. Again such info came from a sex freak.

I asked if I could skip the scanner at BWI.

I only went through a metal detector.

I thought of the rest of the people-—suckers! You give up your rights
and your health for NOTHING to TSA (the federal govt.)

We ARE DOOMED.

It was the people on the flight who also took actions into their own hands on December 25th, 2009.
