Mark Murray writes: The Charleston Daily Mail (WV) reports that GOP Rep. Shelley Moore Capito won't run in the special election for Robert Byrd's Senate seat, side-stepping what would have been a competitive contest against Gov. Joe Manchin (D), who is running for the seat.

Why? Is she afraid she’ll win in a cakewalk and p*ss off the Dems???
Thanks. This was a surprise to me.
I've seen just that since I moved here in '02. When I asked why people don't speak out I was told, "....because THEY know where you live."
Manchin will reliably vote against the entire enviroweenie agenda. He will vote in lockstep with the Dem leadership on everything else.
One cannot help but conclude that poor people are poor precisely because of a lack of drive, intelligence, and knowledge. States harboring large populations of such people tend to be poor...and stay that way.
As a WV resident, I beg the opportunity to correct you.
West Virginians are pro-life, pro-gun, pro-God, pro-family, pro-coal, and pro-military.
But when it comes time to vote, they forget all about that and vote pro-tax, pro-union, pro-lawyer, pro-pork, pro-corruption, and pro-choking down government cheese until they burst.
They are the perfect Mike Huckabee demographic, and my years of observing my WV neighbors account for the fact that I am so negative about "social conservatives".
Much of Ohio is the same way (I am from Akron.)
The future of conservatism is NOT in the pork-loving bible thumpers, it’s in the fiscally astute (but also socially conservative) patriot.
How the heck does one accomplish that?
Wikipedia says she's a member of "Republicans for Choice" ...
It’s a tough nut to crack.
They’re not educated, so they don’t drive their kids to be educated. Even if they do, their kids have nothing to look at as far as what an education gets them - there little rural town doesn’t offer much, so those who do get an education leave for a better place, leaving their hometown/home state in squalor.
WV, parts of VA, PA, OH, MI, and most of the rural South seems to fit into this trap.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Yep .... just as stupid as New Yorkers electing democRats who will destroy their financial industry, or Californians electing democRats who will destroy their aviation industry, or [fill in the blank] electing democRats who will destroy their [fill in the blank] industry.
DUH! The Republican Party is the junior partner in the ruling socialist class. A man (or woman) is always loyal to his bread and butter, the rest of us BE DAMNED!
This will continue until we Patriots take control of the GOP and purge all elements of the ruling class from the party.
Then the we over the country...1775 redux.
Probably doesn’t want to give up a perfectly good House seat just to run a certain-to-lose race against the single most popular person in West Virginia.
Hardly a “capitulation”...more of a “rational political calculation.”
I don't worry about Joe not defending coal. He's from a coal mining family. He will be pro-union though. He is pro-life and in his job as governor, he has been fiscally conservative. I,m glad that Shelley has backed down on running because she would have lost, and she is going to need all of her money and energy holding on to her House seat.
yep, especially the “choking down cheese till they burst” part.
But in DC, he will be a vote in favor of every spending bill on the Rat agenda.
I pray that he won’t and I will be holding his feet to the fire. He already knows I will.
NYers....and I am one...are ruled by elitist limosene liberals like the smug Bloomberg or Mario ‘the Homo’ Cuomo...it is a despicable euro-loving bunch of rich leftists from NYC who make up the majority of Pols...as far as those wall street idiots who voted for Obama??...head up their @$$ limo libs again
I expect more from West Virgina, I expect more from those fly over types.......in West Virginia we have a majority who claims they want personal freedom like the 2nd amendment....but because the union leader scum tell them how to vote ‘for their own good’, they blindly follow even though it goes against their instincts....
Did she not vote for the Dodd-Frank bill? =.=
Good. She’s a liberal.
Better to let a conservative be nominated with smaller name identification and hope a Republican wave carries that person to victory.
