Sure seems like Simmons is a panic monger who has a lot of money to gain somewhere by this being an unsolveable and unprecedented disaster, instead of just another blowout with what may be the most intense damage prevention and pre-damage oil interception program ever (in terms of bbl of oil recovered from the water and shipped or burned off).

What he ignores is that you don't need casing to plug an oil well. You use cement in open hole, just as you would in a 'dry' hole (which isn't necessarily dry, it just does not produce enough oil to be commercial). Often those wells will produce salt water at the same pressures as they would have produced oil had it been present, unless they are plugged.

Well, it sure seems like most of what he is saying is absurd, he seemes to think there’s a whole other well somewhere that blew up that they aren’t showing us, while the BOP we see here was actually displaced from the real well, and is just stuck in the mud pushing out residual gas products. Or something like that.

But so long as he keeps saying that the toxic oil and toxic methane are sitting on the floor of the GOM, we can pretty much discount everything else he is saying.
