The Establishment Candidate, the Incumbents' Choice

FEC Reports show massive financing of our opponent by Washington DC insiders and incumbents.

Brooksville, FL, July 19, 2010 – The Federal Election Commission has released the quarterly campaign finance reports which give a breakdown of all campaign contributions received by the candidates. The report shows that our opponent raised more money. This should not be a surprise as the Washington D.C. Ruling Class is pouring money into the “Friends of Rich Nugent” campaign coffers.

Michael Bates of Hernando Today reported that our opponent has received $47,875 from Political Action Committees but he did not trace these PACs back to the people behind them. Individuals are limited to contributing only $2,400 per election to a candidate but members of Congress, through their “Leadership PACs”, can contribute up to $5,000.

The Sager for Congress Campaign has reviewed our opponent's campaign finance report and determined that well over $30,000 of our opponent's PAC contributions are coming from the “Leadership PACs” and campaign committees of sitting members of Congress. While our opponent might not be an incumbent himself, he is the overwhelming choice of the incumbents in Washington now.

Jason Sager, who refuses to accept special interest campaign donations, said, “It appears that the Washington Elite think they know better than the good citizens of District 5 and are attempting to select our next Congressional representative for us. Before the first absentee ballot was mailed to the first voter in this district, our opponent has written political IOU's to Congressional representatives from Michigan, Virginia, Alabama, California, Pennsylvania and Ohio, as well as to some current representatives from other districts in Florida.”

Most of the “Leadership PACs” that support our opponent also supported Dede Scozzafava in New York, the progressive Republican who dropped out of the race last fall and endorsed the Democrat! Some also supported Trey Grayson in the Kentucky Senate race who was defeated by Rand Paul. It is our hope that the people of District 5 will speak loudly on August 24th and tell them the people's seat is not for sale. We pick our own Representative in this district!

How often do the leadership PACs of members of Congress support non-incumbent candidates in Primaries? I can't think of that ever happening before.

Great post on your site. Glad I could help with the research.

By the way, we made the news. SAGER PICKS UP ON NUGENT=SCOZZAFAVA MEME (FreeRepublic.com mentioned).

Good luck with the debate tomorrow.
