would you believe that the democrat running for governor of MN is running ads that he’ll raise taxes on the rich?

While I think that at the Federal level the FairTax is the best way to go for raising funds for the federal government, I'm a bit conflicted about abolishing income tax at the state and local levels.
Personally, I'd like to see property taxes abolished at the state and local level.

Duuuhhh! All taxes retard economic growth. What is the secret in that? Additional taxes simply retard it more.

In the case of California, taxpayers are moving out and tax users are increasing in numbers.

There are two main reasons raising taxes won't work:
We are apparently already beyond the crest of the
Laffer Curve.
Whenever politicians get (or think they will get) more tax payer money, you can be sure they will spend it and then some.
NY and CA are prime examples of overspending.

Well, like we didn’t know this. Generally speaking, those states who representation are overshadowed by big urban cities seem to experience the worst taxation. This goes hand in hand with the Dems wet dream to abolish the electoral college and go to a strictly popular vote for President. Basically the vampire urbans have pretty much bankrupted their own states and wish to colonize the rural states to keep the cash flowing. It takes a lot of other peoples money to keep Chicago progressing.

Ultimately, if states:
1. Spent only money that they have
2. Only borrow to invest in thing that INCREASE real productivity.
3. Taxed business, reasonably, on profits
4. Taxed consumers, reasonably, on consumption
a state would not NEED an income tax!
Instead, states borrow to pay for consumption - it is a trap that is very difficult to get out of.

Expenditure control is the key. Looking at only one state tax source doesn’t tell the entire picture when trying to compare states’ relative tax burdens.
I like a state (like NH) that relies heavily on property taxes, rather than income taxes, because that lets people know exactly how much government costs, unlike these “tax the other guy” schemes (e.g. “millionaire taxes”) that allow politicians to keep ratcheting up spending. I want politicians’ feet held to the fire on spending, not focusing on some “small” increase in the sales tax or income tax to allow them to expand spending on programs and public sector bloated salaries and retirement packages.

Our daughter and husband are applying in Alaska for jobs and are hoping to move from Tucson to Alaska later on this year. Talk about going from the sublime to the ridiculous--weather wise! I hate it that my 24 year old daughter has to do concealed carry everytime she steps out the door. They all even carry to church. They both love the cold weather sports, so they should be good to go.
I have relatives up there already and they absolutely love it. He's with the Coast Guard and is scheduled to move back to the lower states next summer and they are dreading it.
