Bet those weren’t machine guns. Probably just semis that looked like they could be machine guns. LA Times reporters wouldn’t know the difference, and if they did, they’d lie about it anyway.
Aside from a very few legally registered and transferable machine guns that are worth thousands of dollars to collectors, there’s simply no supply of machine guns in this country.
You could smuggle them in from other countries, but then, why smuggle them into the U.S. first rather than directly into Mexico? Or, you could manufacture a machine gun by converting a semi-auto. But again, why risk doing that here in the U.S. rather than doing it in Mexico instead? Only morons would smuggle into the U.S. or make illegal machine guns and then smuggle them into Mexico.
Guarantee you that these were not machine guns and that the LA Times is simply lying. I would love to see the original press releases from the border agents.

Yes there is, but you are probably not on the list of those who need to know where it is and how to requisition them.

Next time, read the article before you go guaranteeing anything. IF CBP say there was MGs then I’ll bet they were there.
