I know I should pray for this man’s recovery, but frankly I have more important things to do.

Funny, I’m as right wing as can possibly be, 500 times more to the right than Mel, and I’m a Catholic. Yet I support Israel and I don’t beat women; or have a problem being a stumbling dunkard.

Beliefs belong in church.
What more is there to say?
To: Dr. Scarpetta
Mel Gibson practices his own bizarre form of Catholicism. This fact negates any feeble case that Hitchens is attempting to make.

The fact that his wife is meeting him in Australia with some of his kids shows that they love, they love him and want him to kick the alcohol addiction that leads to so much awful behavior. Pray for this guy. He has great potential as we know, and the booze is helping satan infest him - but his family knows this.
God uses all for good, even our decisiobs to caste Him aside and sin terribly. Maybe this will bring him into Full Communion? Only prayer will do it, so pray.
The only good Catholic is a lapse cafeteria Catholic that proclaoms to be practicing, and that’s the position of the government controlled media always.

Yeah Hitchens and Ted Kaczynski’s tirades are the norm for the left. What a sorry excuse for a hatefilled screed.

his wife is meeting him in Australia with some of his kids Are you talking about the Drudge report? Mel's publicist denied that he's going to Australia.
To: Dr. Scarpetta
Well, you know this is at least a part of why this story is getting so much coverage, when things like Acorn and the black panthers stories aren’t. One fits the agenda and one doesn’t.
(Not defending mel’s behavior at all, it was absolutely disgusting).

Beliefs belong in church. What more is there to say?
Two things...
1) You're wrong. Beliefs (if truly believed) are integral to the person and shouldn't have to be left behind to participate in society. Certainly, your belief that others' beliefs belong in Church is a part of you...!
2) Your homepage is scary...

Dear Hitch;
For real, full-on, unadulterated violence and hatred, you might do better looking at pagan National Socialism and atheistic International Communism ...
But that might be too close to home.

My dear Catholic friends, please ignore Hitchens, a man whose hatred does not allow him to become kinder even at the time of his peril, when putting the pen down would suffice.
Mel Gibson is a scumbag, but that is his choice; it has nothing to do with his Catholicism. These dishonest people just use this pretense to vent their hatred of religion --- all religion.
